true, true... At least an external tach can be added semi-easily... Transmission swap? a little more involved...

yeah better be careful we don't poke our eyes out with all those sharp points
![]() But this got me thinking, out of curiosity, in the US, do most models of japanese imported cars have a manual transmission option?

Badum-CHA!
![]() I would say most small cars have a manual option. Doesn't matter if they're imports or domestic. Less and less larger cars have a true manual option. A handfull have tiptronic, but it isn't the same as stomping that clutch. In short, American drivers are sissies. |

It's a sad state here too... even the "sport" models (new ford focus with 2.0 engine, or Mazda 3 sport wagon for example) are automatic only... I had to go with the bottom trim level of the Yaris since that's the only one with a manual... so what, manual transmissions are a status symbol of the poor?

Weird. You realize that the new Smart Fortwo with a 900cc 3 cylinder engine will be producing 15 more HP than the 1.3 L Mazda 2, right? Something about that just seems wrong...
It better get some DARN good mileage, if that's the case! it IS a sharp little thing, though. ~YR

I heard that Ford owns part of Peugeot (or the company that makes them.) Don't quote me on that as I'm not too sure of it myself.

i gotta admit, the exterior and interior design aint thaaat bad. almost every mazda out there looks pretty damn good, even their mazda5, which we considered alongside our sienna. but the interior layout will make any aftermarket stereos and/or in-dash navis quite difficult. and the fun of getting these inexpensive compacts is customizing the crap out of it...
