NCVC has seen LA traffic, we went in and out of the carpool lane, even though we werent allowed to

Same here, I go about 70mph while others do 80+.

Spending 4 days on a bike going 65 mph, surprisingly, people drove at 60 in Oahu. Didnt see anyone smashing past that mark.

Gas prices + loads of other b.s...will drive me away easily

Think the highest it was here a while back was.....$4.75 if memory serves me?

Current gas mileage with the '11 base model Fit with the 5 speed auto . First 34 miles was just the other 1/2 and the rest is the 2 of us with groceries and some very steep hills with steady winds of 10 m.p.h.. Four Blizzak WS60 tires set at 36 . Gas is Sunoco 87 w/E10 at $4 a gallon which is still likely to be the winter blend . Not as good as the sedan , but still decent . Will possibly post the final results on next fill .

$3.95 in Milwaukee, WI currently. Jumped up from $3.67 in less than a day. Totally missed out, was hoping it'd go down a couple more cents before I filled up, now I'm at 2 bars and need to fill tomorrow :(

The Netherlands:
- petrol: $ 9,08 a gallon
- diesel: $ 7,46 a gallon

It has never been that expensive.

It's okay, bredayaris, the US doesn't care. They think it is their God-given right to pay far less for gasoline than anyone else on the planet, and get mad as hell if someone is. Something about volume discount, I guess. All the whiners one sees on TV when the price goes up are ALL driving bloody great SUVs and 4x4s!

Taxes are the main difference in prices around the world. Socialism doesn't come cheap.

Fortunately, the US isn't all the way there yet, although we are quickly on the way.

Agree , many drive larger vehicles to make them feel safer and be more aggressive . There are some that need them for business , etc.. We had a neighbor and his buddy point at our 3 door Yaris and start laughing while sitting in his large Silverado pickup . So , some of it is about making their manhood bigger .

My favorite are the moms that have one kid and thus feel justified in buying a freaking excursion. Of course the US auto industry doesn't seem to be interested in pushing anything but large vehicles. I hate that they have effectively destroyed the small truck market.

Last year was a good year for sales of large vehicles in the U.S.. If gas prices keep rising you'll likely see them trading in their large vehicles at a lower trade in value because dealers won't be able to sell them or turn them away like that of the Katrina / Rita crisis . Some were torching their big vehicles to get out of loans , that may pick up again . It amazes me how people have a short memory or are that ( dense ) . The $400 or greater payments and the gas needed ( $100+ a week ) for large vehicles could be used for house payments , utilities , and be used for shopping to help the economy . So you can't put the on the President of the U.S.. Past or present .

gas prices around the world are 100% taxes. The US has the lowest taxes among the countries that tax gas and don't subsidize it, but we have no where near the lowest gas prices. European countries are the worst at taxing the crap out of gas.

Without taxes their gas would be the same as ours is if we had no taxes.

Please do the world a favor and learn the facts before you spout off stupidity.

btw, the people of kuwait spend about 36 cents a gallon on gas. The rest of the middle east isn't far off that mark either.
