Yari's system build

Santa (me) got my wife a sound system for her 2008 Yaris sedan and I'm now in the process of installing it.

Of course I need to take care of the lack of sound deadening the car has in its stock form and I'm going with the budget version.

Deadener -Stinger Roadkill Mat on metal to lower resonance.

Decoupler -Ultratouch thermal barrier on top of deadener/metal to decouple the Acoustical Barrier (MLV) and reduce heat transfer (100% coverage) I used aluminum foil tape to seal the seams and to keep the radiant barrier down. I bought the 48 in. x 24 ft. roll @ $59.98 /roll.

MLV - dB-3 Acoustical Barrier MLV (Mass Loaded Vinyl). MLV goes on top of radiant barrier. I bought two rolls @$29.99 / roll so I can do the floor as well as the doors.

Armacell’s 2 inch Armaflex closed cell foam tape as another form of decoupler and to help reduce rattles. I bought at least 4 rolls @ $7.85 / each, Rammat Ensolite IUO Peel and Stick @$17 / yrd would have been a better option but I did not want to wait for it to ship. I planned on using as much of the Ultratouch radiant barrier as I could as the decoupler but this tape is good for the small areas.

Extruded Butyl rope where the door skins meet the side impact beams. I had some left over from a projector headlight project I did on my Mark VIII.

I also have a 3, 2 inch thick sound deadening sheets that I've been cutting up and stuffing in any empty spaces I could find including the inner wheel wells (front & rear) and trunk area. I got her a set of SYLVANIA SilverStar Ultras for Christmas so I already had the head lights out and that made it easy to stuff the fender wells and add mat to the fenders themselves.

Considering this is a huge project I had to enlist some helpers as well as a supervisor (Jawa) to keep them focused...

I don't think it's working!

Anyway...

You can see the foam packed in the large open space over the rear wheel.

Interior gutted.

I noticed a plug was out when I pulled the carpet up.

Door speaker wire fishing fun.

Speaker adapters made the job easy.

Outer door skin is covered in the thermal barrier and I added some 2 inch foam on the floors as well. I installed the mat on the "other" side of the inner door panels to make room for the decoupler / MLV layers so the door panels would fit easier.

Pass side door ready for some work... She is driving my modified Focus ST so I need to hurry up on this install!

More to come...
