A little of topic, but the #1 reason I bought (for my Dad) a 2015 Corolla L (rather than the LE) was the 4-speed automatic transmission. After seriously test driving the 4-speed L and the CVT LE, I far preferred the tried and true 4-speed; it was quick, intelligent, and responsive. In comparison, the CVT was a slug and I hated it. BTW, my 4-speed Yaris tranny performs better than my 6-speed Camry.

I like your review. It is nice to hear from someone that owns an earlier model hatchback and to talk intelligently about the positive and maybe not so positive changes in the model over the years until present day. I enjoyed it.

Heres something I predict will never change.

My wife and I have invented something we call sex. When everyone else finds out about it, theyre ALL going to want to do it too!

Great review.

I interpreted the transmission discussion as an endorsement of Toyotas selection of and use of it's well proven and effective (with this powerplant anyway) 4 speed auto. Not a criticism that a more complex is better, just offered more often than not anymore.

The fact of the matter for me is the complication factor and potential failure possibilty goes up with every additional gear added to todays ever more complex slushboxes so I'll continue to enjoy the intrinsic simplicity of my 4 sp auto-equipped '11 LB and think carrying that recipe forward is a wise decision on Toyota's part.

At the end of it all, a review is simply another person's opinion, and in this case I agree with this review, at least the parts of it I can relate to (I havent driven any Yaris but my own)
