Installment number one of the Yaris project is off to the printers, SportsCar readers should have it on hand in about three weeks.

Not currently, it use to be available at some of the bigger book chains, but that was some time ago.

At some point, after the print copy has circulated to all the members, I am sure we will see a PDF of the feature online.

Got the Yaris on the scales today and did the corner weights. Current weight with three bars of fuel (just over a 1/4 tank) is 1860lbs.

Also built a small air dam.

How did you find the balance from side to side?
My Echo has nearly perfect weight distribution on the fronts, but the rears are 30 kg different. And the heavier side is the side with the muffler (but no fuel tank).

When we first rolled it on the scales it was 100lbs light on the right rear, with near perfect front weights. I guess our 2.74lb Coast Fabrication muffler took too much weight off of that corner.

We have been able to improve the weights a bit, but we are trying to be really careful about overloading the left front - Road America is nearly all right hand turns, and we don't want to burn off the left front tire at the Runoffs.

Hot off the presses... Just got a finished copy of the October issue with the Yaris intro. SCCA members should have the issue in 7-10 days.

Man! I dont know how I missed this thread! This is so cool! I have been wanting to see an HP Yaris since 2001. My SCCA AX co-driver, Evan, had mentioned he knew some guys building a HP Yaris in So Cal. He said it was going up on two wheels so I knew it had to be fairly fast and have some stick. Now I have seen it. Very cool work!!!

Love the bias plys on the car! Do you have pictures of your suspension mods or are those "top secret"? My bigest complaint about my old echo was suspension arms twisting and not holding tires flat to the ground. What have you done to combat inherent weakness of the ecnobox suspension arms, mounts, bushings , etc?

Did I miss dyno specs on this motor? What kind of numbers is it pulling? Do you have a LSD in this thing? That was my other compliant is way too much inside wheel spin in tight stuff. I combatted that with huge rear bar but it needed an LSD in my opinion.

Too bad about not being able to get it in GP classing in Solo. Yeah it would get smoked in EP. I run against the EP national Champ in my FP Boxster and he consitently gets me by a second. Dont think that little Yaris would have a chance against that RX3. But GP would be perfect!

I know Evan... Have not seen him much this year because I have not done many PCA (or any) autocrosses.

I had a chance to talk to a few SEB/PAC guys this week about the Yaris, and compare some data. Hopefully they will consider moving it to GP. Any Yaris owners that are SCCA members should submit a letter to the SEB for the move to GP, just so they know people would consider running in GP. We are down 60-70hp from the real EP cars, and weigh a good bit more, the Yaris would get crushed in EP.

What a week, just wrapped up the Solo natls. I am sitting at the airport in Omaha Neb, after getting up at 3:00am Pac time to catch our flight in Lincoln, which was dropped due to weather.

I think I should have done more than three autocrosses this year before heading to Natls, I was a little rusty, no clean runs the first day, but was the quickest RX-8 in CS the second day. Oh well, always next year. My wife won her fifth Championship in CSL.

As soon as I get home I have to pick up the Yaris and meet the Toyota transporter for the trip to Road America and the Runoffs... I think Sept is going to kill me.

A lot of the info you are looking for is in the issue of SportsCar you should have any day now. The rest will be in a later issue - after the Runoffs.

Good luck at runnoffs. Congrats on your and your wife's runs at solo Nats too. I was watching CS to see how the 370Z's did in that class. From what I saw looked like course was momentum course so pesky MX5's could hang with power cars.

Will keep my eye out for Sports Car mag.

The Yaris belongs to Toyota, we get to use it for one year. We built it, and I get to race it, but at the end of the day they own the car.

We had to rent the truck, but it beats making the three day drive to Road America.

Ouch. So who's paying for all the hardcore work being done to it and what becomes of all the part at the end of the year?

We are fortunate enough to have a number of great partners helping us, some that we have worked with for years, and others that came on specifically for this project. It has not been painful at all... Unless you count the seemingly hundreds of hours of labor we have done ourselves.

But the payoff comes next week at SCCA National Championship Runoffs.
