No, the only one we could find at a dealer was in Indy, 5 hours away, and they are not open until Monday. Just have to wait for Fedex to show with ours, and hope we get on track for Qual.

My race is on Saturday. So far we have one and half practice sessions done. We used that to test the news suspension (AST shocks, Eibach springs), and learn the track. Other than the pulley all is good.

We were able to watch the live SpeedcastTV video of last years race in our office on Mac's. Make sure your flash player is up to date.

Off to the track...

Wow, what a week... And having no computer sucked.

After the pulley failure in practice we had to use our qualifying sessions for some fine tuning. We had the engineers from Goodyear on hand to help evaluate our alignment and tire pressures.

For the second qual session we made a spring change, and went the wrong way. The car started to pogo, on three wheels, and was really overworking the left front.

With only one session left we went back to our first set of springs, which gives us a good balance, but is a little to soft. We finally got the tire pressures and alignment optimized for RA, but it was so hot in final session we ended up going slower - however, relative to how much others slowed in the heat we knew we made the right choice.

Qualified 13th, about what we expected after getting the final assembly done on the car one days before we shipped. Got a great start, moved up a number of spots. Running in the draft during the race resulted in 3 second quicker times. The Yaris was very strong on the brakes, but with the tall gearing did not have the grunt off the turns.

Near the end of the race (I think it was lap 9 or 10) I got in to turn three and the car hopped and slid wide, not sure there was fluid or something on the track, or if the crash bolts slipped. I get down to turn six and the car goes up on two wheels, quick. Turned the wheel strait and went in the grass, which was not smooth, caught air and dug in the air damn. When I got back on track the steering wheel was 45 degrees off center. So either the crash bolts slipped, or something is bent. I took it easy for a few turns, to make sure everything was ok, then got back on it.

At this point the Honda that had been pulling me around the track was long gone. The last few laps clicked off without issue, and we came home in eighth place.

We hit our goal of a top ten finish, and were very happy to bring it home in one piece - our SSC Nissan on the other hand is in need of some bodywork.

As I understand it speedcasttv.com will have the edited races up after the first of Oct. Once I get my laptop fixed, or get a new one, I will post up the video I took.

Goodyear engineers are worthless and you saw that first hand by making changes based on their bad advice and seeing what happened. ;) I've seen it time and again. I used to work for a supplier who sold them test instruments and they were always clueless.

The spring change was my idea, to get more rotation. They were consulted for pressure and alignment changes, and were spot on.

Just unloaded the Toyota transporter. No chance of getting everything home in one trip, we brought back twice as many tires as we took, plus a spare engine and trans for the RX-8 we brought back.

The boss is in FLA for Indycar... So we commandeered his office.
