I guess im interested in this 1.0l motor. how does it run? we are stuck with the 1.5l 106hp motor here in the states. I think the 1.0l would be awsome!!

The aygo was pretty quick, capable of doing 60mph in 2nd gear and 0-60 in 11,5 seconds! The Yaris isn't as quick as the Aygo, but its much smoother to drive, and like the Aygo it doesn't have any problem keeping up with the traffic on the highway (speedlimits in holland are 60mph or 75mph)! maybe ill make a movie sometime to show you how it runs! I think the 1.5 doesn't deliver enough power for it's displacement! In holland we have the new 1.3 with a start/stop system which has 99hp, and in the Toyota Auris there's a 1.6 liter available which has 132hp! Don't know why toyota is still selling them with 1.5's in the US? |

As for the last question- I'm thinking it's got to be the quality of gasoline over there. It's just different standards and the need to ensure long life for the engine. I've heard that the US Smart comes with instructions to only use high grade (not sure of the terms) gasoline.
But to the actual topic- the 1,0 is great. Powerful enough to carry the weight of the Yaris. Sure, you need to work the gears more often than on a more powerful engine, but I don't mind. Plus, you're more likely to be in the right gear for a quick sprint :) I love the sound of the 3-pot engine too- it sounds great when it's warm. When cold, it sounds too much like a diesel... |
