I don't think theres a "better". They both respond differently to different types of alignment and tire setup.
I just want balls out, so I went 23mm. But the difference is like getting Super Size with your Double Quarter Pounder with cheese meal. |

I have 19mm and it has been awesome! and YES ...........TRD is 19mm
NOTE: I've been adding weight (deadening my car and subwoofer box) and my new wheels stick out a little bit more so I think I'm going to upgrade to 23mm. http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26150

I believe the 19mm is good for street use, and if you want to autocross then you should get the 23mm. However, the bigger the bar, the stiff your suspension would be, so the decision should be based on your driving skills and habits...

Yes,the bar does stiffen the rear suspension and I assume the 23mm will stiffen it a bit more then the 19mm.
However I feel the ther rear is too soft as compared to the front in the stock configuration. After adding the 23mm bar, to me, it now seems just about equal front to rear. Personally, I have no problems using the 23mm for street/dd use. |

The rear swaybar only "stiffens" the rear suspension when the car is cornering or when one rear wheel encounters a bump or hole that the other one doesn't. Typical straight line ride quality is unchanged. That kind of change in stiffness can only come from stiffer springs or shocks.

Everyone I've talked to who installs a sway bar in the Yaris reports more stability in crosswinds. You'll find lots of posts to that effect all over the forums here.

It should be understood that even on the highway, traveling in staight line, the suspension is constantly flexing and the end result is one side will hinder the flexing other with the sway bay installed and therefore, stiffen the suspension feel. Rarely does the road want to compress both sides of suspension equally. Of course, one can argue just how much stiffer it will feel and also the 19mm vs the 23mm. |

The suspension "sees" a crosswind the same as it does a turn. The body rolls, once side compresses, the other side extends. A swaybar will limit that movement.
The calculation of bar "stiffness" (resistance to twisting force) is a function of its diameter to the 4th power. A 23mm bar is a lot stiffer relative to a 19mm bar than it might seem at first glance. While the 23mm bar is only about 21% larger diameter, it is MUCH more than 21% stiffer. Roughly: 23^4/19^4 = 280000/130000 = 2.15. The 23mm bar is over twice as stiff as the 19mm bar. |

And that's where I'm at, I know I'm going to get one soon, but debating between the 19 and 23. I just a daily commuter, 55 year old fart with a young heart (except the cholesterol) and I want better handling, not sure if the 23 would make it too stiff. Probably should go with a 19 since it still is gonna be a vast improvement over stock. But don't wanna end thinking , dang,I shoulda got the 23 after all,.......It's not like I'm gonna go gymkhana racing or anything.

^ first, read the posts before this one. Then, buy the 23mm sway bar, or the 19mm for $30 less.

questions on the Ultra racing 23mm 1) what kind of paint ? is it powercoated, or fairly resistant to corrosion ? 2) the welds, any warranty on the welds ? are they in stock ? --------- anyway, i am gonna get one of these 23mm jibbajobbahs and slap it on and post my results right now, in crosswinds, my Yaris is like an itchy bear cub I can get a TRD for 180 bucks from dealer. for less $$ I can go stiffer, so microimage will see some funds from me soon. EDIT: UltraRacing is ISO 9001 I am no longer concerned Last edited by 127.0.0.1; 05-13-2010 at 03:52 PM. |

Mine was powder coated, before my dumb ass scraped it to hell installing it. Make sure you put a blanket/towel under your car when installing!
Just buy it, not to expensive, and it makes the car feel so much more solid. Why bother with the 19mm other than you saves you $30. |
