I've used these people for several OEM parts after several members of this forum recommending them.

I just turned 180,000 miles on my 2009 HB. The bearings in my water pump has been sounding knarly for the last 10,000 miles, however there are no indications of coolant leakage anywhere. I've literally spent the last 2 hours reviewing just about every water pump related post here in YarisWorld, and as a result, am inclined to replace my water pump with an aftermarket pump due to all these posts complaining of OEM pumps (Aisin brand) failing prematurely. A few have stated that they went with an aftermarket and am wondering if anyone recommends any specific aftermarket brand. NAPA sells Aisin and NPW. AutoZone sells Duralast. Advance Auto sells Tough One. Can anyone suggest a brand that they are satisfied with? And if so, how many miles have you driven since installing the aftermarket brand?
Thanks in advance.

I don't think that there is anything wrong with the OEM ones. I think that without a normal tensioning mechanism that most experience premature failure due to an overtightened drive belt.

The profit margins are quite high on those programs, and the Finance rep at the dealership makes a very nice spiff for selling them, so pricing is quite negotiable....don't pay list! You're betting against the house when you buy a warranty plan in any case, so my last advice is to make sure the underwriting company is a reputable one (Toyota, Zurich, etc) so do your due diligence BEFORE signing up for that warranty plan.

Replaced my original Asin pump a couple day's ago.....got the NAPA lifetime guaranteed one. (NAPA Part #: 42253 [Tru-Flow Water Pumps PART # TFW 42253]) $40.99
Comes with the metal gasket, not the paper one. Wasn't that big of a deal to do. The noise was caused me to change the pump....the motor didn't overheat or show any performance issues. Been that way for at least the last 20k. (My wife borrowed my Yaris and said something sounded wrong....and didn't like my explanation that it's just the water pump, it's fine :-) My 2008 HB has 203,000 miles on her....best $12,600 I ever spent on a car! |

I had my water pump and alternator replaced at 56000km back in 2008 because the bearing failed. I had the pump replaced again about a year ago at 160000km because of a very small leak around the seal.

I have the same colour of hatchback, I like your style. I changed my waterpump in last summer at 230,000.Also did the waterpump in my old sedan. It's a good repair to do if you want to start turning wrenches. One of the first things I learned how to do other than brakes and oil changes.

My water pump bit the dust at somewhere around 70,000 miles. It was bad for a few months. It was making one hell of a racket. I replaced it with a blue print Chinese water pump. Which seems OK at nearly 130,000 miles. I actually have another one on my parts shelf that i got for £25. So i will just whack another one in it goes. I don't know if Aisin ever fixed the problem with the bearings in the OEM ones, i did hear something about switching from a pressed plate construction to a cast construction because of the issue.
