7+ years and 43,000 miles out of my OEM FB battery. The battery wasn't dead when I replaced it today, but close to it... My headlights would dim when I hit the brakes...

Battery
Don't know what's in my 137k mile 2007 from Gilmore, CA. It's all black, no label, w/ some writing in orangish crayon...yellow crayon was OEM on circa 1970 Chevys.

My OEM battery is almost 10 years old, but finally seems to be dying. It is an FB Hi Dash, Furakawa Battery Company in Japan.

Is not OEM. But my Walmart EverStart battery is 2 years old. Feels weak at -20°C. 🤣

If i remember correctly my OEM battery made in to March 2014 at about 75,000 miles. We had some really foul weather and a blizzard. I drove it about 70 miles to work. Luckily it was parked in the basement car park where its a few degrees warmer than outside and i just about managed to get it going. The mechanic who tested it said it was so bad he couldn't believe i'd managed to get it going... The cells were all really down on water in it to.

The original one was in my car for 6 years.
Then the load tester started to indicate the fading max current. As I was getting ready for a long, long winter trip, I decided to change it. Now riding with Varta for 4 years. Never connected the load tester to this one. :) |

My stock battery lasted from 2009 all the way to the summer of 2016. I was really impressed. My car has the eco start-stop mode and Even with this, the battery lasted like 8 years.

12 years (2000 - 2012) in mine and probably didn't really need replacing. The Varta Blue that replaced it is still in the car now and it's been working fine even in -13 °C.

The 51R battery I purchased from Costco 3 years ago still cranks really strong, usually no more than 2-3 cranks to get the engine going. Guess it helps that I'm paranoid and put it on my 12v maintenance charger overnight, a few times a year. Car's mainly used for city driving so it doesn't see more than 14 roundtrip miles of use each day. I recall a mechanic saying that short trips don't allow enough time for the battery to charge properly.

Toyota Yaris original battery? OEM black no label crayon chalk marking
question:
Has anyone ever encountered a Yaris battery that is all black (no label of any sort) w/ or w/o orange or other color hand-made crayon or chalk markings? (number or letter or initials or something) Such marking is or has been done in some or most auto assembly plants. An indication that my Made in Japan 2007's battery could be original? |

^sorry, I haven't seen one like that. Interesting thing(at least to me)- I was at the dealership yesterday and there was a poster for toyota's OEM battery. The further up north you live the longer your battery will last. The upper third of the continental us showed an expected life of 4-6 years where extreme southern parts only showed 2-3 years!
If you go back thru this thread and read the locations for each poster it seems to verify this(for the most part). I'm in the Midwest and I usually get a little over 4 years. |

And I think a battery lasts longer on a white car than a black car. ;) Sent from my ONE A2005 using Tapatalk |

My alternator just went out and car stalled while I was driving. Towed the car back home and used a multimeter to check voltage of the less than 3 year old Costco battery. It sat at 12.3v so I cranked it and it fired right up in less than a second. This 51R interstate battery from Costco sure does have some power behind it. Also, the Costco warranty behind it is about 42 months and the Costco warranty is the main reason I would never buy a car battery from anywhere else. I was at home depot the other day and asked about their warranty on car batteries and they said it was a manufacturer warranty so I wouldn't bring it back into their store after 90 days but call the manufacturer within 2 years of purchase...
