Well thanks, I mostly drive somewhat aggresively, if there's a corner I like to push it a bit. But with stock 14s it feels like I've reached the limit just at about what feels like the speed I'd like to easily do. The rest of the time is, you know, Seattle traffic etc. with some shit ass bumpy road surfaces. I'm thinking that the 17s might not have enough give for our pot holes, but maybe the 16s would be a reasonable compromise between handling and bump absorbtion. What d'ya think?

16's may be the happy inbetween for you then
here are the recommended tire sizes with the rim widths from my Tire Guide

6-7" - 195/50 or 205/50
6.5-7.5 - 205/50 or 215/50

I do appreciate the help. Will I be missing much in the handling department between 16 and 17? Are there more choices of rims and tire brands in 17s. What's cheaper? ( I am one cheap ass SOB.)

Im with you on the cheap ass part...Theres nothing cheap in 17's i'll tell you that. Price some 17" performance tires too. Prepare for sticker shock.

BTW, what did you guys buy the Yaris for? Putting 17 and 18s on this car is like putting a supercharger on it. Defeats the purpose IMHO.

17's are probibly going to be the cheepest way out, the tire sizes are the most common there are many decent 17" tires for $60-80 each, and they still ride pretty nice, and you have enough side wall to drive on shit-ass Ohio craters...

16's (believe it or not) are lets common of tire sizes and are going to cost more

Cheap tires. Try Walmart, some of them carry a brand called NEXEN That is what I am running. They work great.

Not sure where you are getting ripped off for your tire prices, but 17" tire prices in our size are hella cheep for something decent, you want top of the the line you are going to pay top of the line price.... for the most part there is a hugh market fighting for you buisness that has driven the price down on the preformance entry level tire market

17 are actaully the happy medium in preformance (that I have found so far) they seem to about the same as my 15's yet they look SOOOO much better

The tires are Made by Nexen. Really good brand for really good cost.
nick1983,
I have a Black Yaris Sedan and I'm looking to replace the stock tires/hubcaps. Where did you get your rims & tires?

Thanks,
Troy

16ins wheels

My turbo Vios which is really just like a Yaris 4 door was built by TRD and comes with 7.0J 205/45 R16 with Michelin tyres. The overall circumference is much the same as 15ins wheels and tyres but my lower profile 7ins tyres stick like glue in really fast sweepers. The car is also lowered by TRD 30mm with no problems whatsoever. This car handles great and is 100lbs lighter than a Yaris. My problems are having more power than needed getting of the line which causes the front wheels to bounce and bottom out unless you are real smooth on the throtle.(this is with TRD modified suspension)When being real smooth it also helps to control the torque steer you get with the 143hp I have.So how do the the guys with 180 plus hp drive there cars fast I don't know. But I recommend my tyre and wheel set up for a great feel to the car and I'm fairly sure they will work a treat on a Yaris.

What do you mean by the 17's "seem to about the same as my 15's"? In what way? Handling? Price? Smoothness?
