Willow Springs is not nearly as fun in the rain. Due to massive amounts of rain we kept the play to a minimum and focused on work.

Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to lap in the GT cars, but we did get to do some acceleration comparisons, the stockish GT cars are so much slower than the HP car. With the slick track, and no proper rain tires for any of the cars, they had Philip and I do some of the driving for the video they were working on. We had to do some mock racing, and some very tight (the cars were within a foot) runs around the wet track behind a camera car at speed - it was more stressful than a real race.

The real struggle was the acceleration runs, even in 3rd gear the HP car just wanted to spin the tires. Slicks are not the best choice for a wet track.

At the end of the day the guys who ran the GT cars went out for a few laps in the HP car, one of them got out shaking.

The GT cars also don't have the transmission modification either?

Hey, did you ever do anything to the motor mounts on the HP car? Because the mounts on the Echo's are notoriously soft.

Can't believe I forgot about this thread

Awesome to see the HP Yaris now has brothers. And GT's interest is the icing on the cake. Congrats Jason. You da man!

I don't think we are making enough power for this to be a big concern. So far none have failed.

It's not that they fail, it's that they allow WAY too much engine movement. I'm talking like a good 3" back and forth.

I need to get inserts for mine. I took my torque damper out (for winter) and noticed a difference. Wheelspin is a bitch

I am making a nice deal with AutoPower and will have bolt-in roll bars and cages in stock by late January.

^One of those would look sweet on the S14 JR's selling, assuming you take it off his hands

Jason, any plans to run all three in a cup race anytime soon?

All three cars are going to be run at the PlayStation GT5 media launch, and we have been kicking around the idea of taking the other two cars to an actual race. We will just have to see how 2011 plays out.

Off to the races... Heading out to Phoenix on Friday for the SCCA Double National at PIR. The Honda I was racing against last season is on the entry list, so it should be a good battle.

Built a new intake system to test. The car came with a K&N short ram system that had a built in velocity stack. I have never seen one before, and looking at the finish on the piece I believe it was a custom CNC piece from the cars previous life. I had been kicking around the idea of trying it, but the setup needed some fixing. The short ram lacked a breather input (the hose was laying loose in the engine compartment), and from what we have seen on the dyno the Yaris likes a long tube intake - makes better Tq.

So I ordered up some tubing, clamps and a breather filter so we could give it a go. This setup gives us about 6" more tube length than the off the shelf K&N system we were using. It also has a larger diameter filter, the velocity stack, and none of the baffles for the MAF.

We will try it this weekend, and next time we go in for a tune we will run them back to back on the dyno.

I still need to get some heat wrap for it.

Just got back from a trip to TMS. Got to tour the museum this time. Some really cool stuff in there.

Then we capped off the day by putting plates on the two GT-Spec cars and driving them to a body shop for interior paint.

If anyone is in AZ this weekend come on out to PIR, check out the Yaris, and watch the race. There is no admission fee for an SCCA Club Race.

The Yaris is in National Group 1.
