I've only been getting around 27 mpg, 50% a/c, stop and go highway commute 10 miles each way. Obviously, this is greatly dissapointing, but was wondering if anywone else living in an ethanol blend area (or the DC metro area) has had the same problem. So far, I've been filling up with ethanol blended 87...

Yeah - I'm in a 10% ethanol region and I'm only getting about 30(US) mpg in my automatic tranny liftback. Then again I drive 75-80 mph on the highway if I'm not sitting in traffic.

Here is an interesting article. It's basically all about fuel economy help sell tiny cars. Some nice words about the Yaris.

Just found some gas mileage improvement tips from I Go Cars:
The tips per se are not too different from what I have read from elsewhere. It is the savings achievable listed out in percentage terms which interest me.

http://www.i-go-cars.com/autos/category/gas-mileage/

Also, if you click Gas Saving Tips (or click this - http://www.i-go-cars.com/autos/gas-saving-tips/) and go to the bottom of the page opened, you will find that it says warming up after start is not necessary for modern engines. It is novel to me. It may be right but I would personally recommend to make additional reference to individual cars' user manuals.

Very interesting article thanks! GO YARIS!!! Sure the new Aveo may have more features but it still doesn't get the milage in this class, or at least not up to par from what I read even with the new one coming out, then there's the Dawoo...we already know about that.

Yes, yes! Also, the Yaris and the Scion together outsell the Aveo. Actually, the Aveo is not bad, I still think that it is mainly the class leading fuel economy that helps the Yaris. Of course, the Yaris' predicted reliability, its cute look and higher resale value have their parts to play too.

More than anything I think it has to do with the resale, and predicted reliability.. besides all that the Aveo is a much less appealing looking car..

Officially I found I get 31.5 MPG.

That is 95% city driving and a lead footed kid with a short shifter in the driver's seat.

All in all, not bad. I'm happy.

I live in the DC metro area. I just got an auto sedan last week and only got like 25 mpg on my first tank, but I wasn't trying too hard to get good mileage. This time, however, I've been following all of the tips I've read, like coasting as much as possible, so I'll see if it improves at all. I have a/c on all the time, and it is 100% city, stop and go with traffic lights.

Well, yesterday was the first of "real" challenges. Drove to Menifee CA, Riverside County, I believe. 85 miles from where I live, and it only took 1 bar of my gas tank... Now, on the way back it took 3. I'm currently at about 1/2 a tank, and just slightly under 200 miles.
I go to Vegas in November, we'll see if I can get there on just one tank. When my GF drove, we made it with plenty of gas left. She drives a Subaru outback.

I would say my drive to the location was great, the drive back used up more gas. Oh well. I love my freakin' car!

i was out on several long drives this weekend. one was with the bcmr2 club from langley to manning park, about a 400km round trip. i got about 6.5L/100km on the highway, cruising at a high 120-30km/h, and driving the car quite hard at times up the hills (and i still couldnt keep up, hahaha).

next day, i was up to lytton from vancouver, return trip roughly 500km's. not too sure how much gas i used up. but over those 2 days, boy am i glad i drive a fuel efficient car!

Adjusted the tire pressure in the middle of the 2nd to last tank (they were a pinch low) and also adjusted my driving style on the last tank. For example, I now shift gears between 2,700-3,000 rpms instead of 3,000-3,300 rpms. It's also been cooler this week so I didn't have to use the AC as much.

Overall, I'm happy with the fuel economy. I'm anxious to see what the next 5 tanks will yield with my new driving stylee

on my 2nd last bar. going to a friend cottage this weekend,t that'll use it up for sure.

and the good part, means till get to fill up in newmarket or richmond hill, where gas is usually like 5 cents cheper than anywhere else

Cool km's per bar!

FYI I fill up right to the top until it holds no more every time.

Generally:
1st bar = 175 kms.
2nd bar = 260 km
3rd bar = 330 km
4th bar = 405 km

5 speed
4410 kms
90% hwy
A/C rarely used
windows open 1/4 way
3 door
conservative driving style (shift at 2500, slow down out of gear)
205/40/17's and Eibachs

Last three tanks based on kilometers per EXACT volume of 87 octane.
40.67 imp MPG
41.60 imp MPG
40.22 imp MPG

Here's an update on the mileage I got on my last tank: Drove about 70% City & 30% Highway. Got 359.8 Miles, filled up with 10.15 gallons...so that's about 35.45 MPG. This was without driving "grandma" style. I think this next tank I'm taking it easier.

Cool.Nice effort there.

The thing is that after making an effort to drive economically, I usually end up putting the pedal to the metal!!!
