Such a shame that there isn't any real info about the Global Race Engine after 2013. Even the TMG website only lists the Yaris R1A with its silly 1.3L engine. http://www.toyota-motorsport.com/mot...yaris-r1a#tab1

I think the motor in the RA1 is a 2nz-fe judging by the 0-60 time.

Yea, makes me want a 3rd gen now. I love the headlights and tail light design much more. Only part I don't like is the rear quarter panel wide body.. it looks weird, I know it is designed for functionality, but looks awkward.

I saw a small article in Saturdays Toronto Star Wheels section announcing this.
AWD Yaris to join WRC in 2017. Toyota's first factory effort since leaving the series back in 1999. Can't wait to see it.

Looks like they'll be facing some stiff competition.

Curious.. Whats up with all the sub compact cars being converted to WRC cars lately... Seems like it started off with the Fiesta and the Mini Cooper. Now the Yaris and Micro? What happened to the Evo, WRX, Focus?

At this rate, I would not be surprised to see Smart car and the Scion iQ show up

After 2010 the engine regulations changed. Previously you could have a 2.0L turbo charged engine, for 2011 and up they adopted the S2000 spec (no, not the Honda) for engines, this limited cars to 1.6L with turbo. Since most cars fitted with these small motors seem to be B segment cars its only fitting this is what you see being raced.

In keeping with the regulations, it looks like Toyota will be selling at least 2500 rally-spec versions of the Yaris. There's speculation that this new rally-spec Yaris will be powered by the Lexus 200t model's, 8AR-FTS engine. (2.0L turbo with direct injection - 175KW/235HP)
