Analyst expects gas prices will remain this low for at least another 6 months...and may even go a bit lower during some of that period:

Greek pump price breakdown: as of 19 december
![]() Black: pump price (avg) Red: gas station profit Blue: taxes Green: base refinery price Thats after the prices went down. Before, taxes were the same .95/L and profit was about .08/L Thats why it shows such huge profits. Sent from my awesome Xperia Z1 C6903 using Tapatalk.

Filled up last night. Same station as the one from my post #61 on this thread.
$ 1.69 9/10 USD per U.S. gallon.....dropped 17 cents per gallon in 1 week. This station is now the 3rd cheapest in the Houston metro area...tied with another Kroger. The cheapest station in the Houston metro = $ 1.63 USD per U.S. Gallon. |

$1.63! Could we see 99 cents again? My very first fillup (10 gallons of gas in a VW Beetle in 1974) was $3.
Would 29 cents a gallon be a good thing? All things considered?

Right from empty would be just under $42CAD, just over $36USD. Less than 1/2 of what you pay in Greece. I may stop complaining about paying taxes for at least 48 hours.

I remember sitting on the passenger side of the bench seat in my mother's convertible sometime in the late 60s or early 70s and pulling into the 76 station at what we called the 'bottom of the hill' (our downtown area was flat, but surrounded by hills/mountains). IIRC, gas was under 20 cents USD per gallon...and it was all full serve...and the attendants weren't young. We didn't get a self serve station until sometime in the mid to late 70s. For some reason, I also remember filling my own tank at a station in a different part of California (in Irvine) in 1982 and paying $1.65 9/10 USD per U.S. gallon.Quote:
As much as I love the Houston area, I don't know if I would have wanted to be here at that time). The economy is now a lot more diverse. However, low oil prices still have a deleterious effect. From what I've read...discussions on other sites...some companies have already adjusted, or are starting to adjust, their operations to reflect the decline in the price of oil, resulting in more layoffs. As much as I hate to spend any more than I have to per mile, higher oil prices are more beneficial to me personally. While some of this is due to the economy in general and some due to my proximity to new roads being built, my house (since 2008) has gone up in value more than my total expenditure on gas will be for the next 20 years. The most I've ever paid here is $3.93 USD per U.S. gallon...and that was when people in parts of California and New York were paying over $5.00 USD per U.S. gallon.

![]() I complain about Federal taxes, but when it comes to state and local....Texans can't really complain . We have a high property tax rate, but you get a good 'bang for your buck' here. Plus, you have the option of buying in an older area (with a lower rate) and can reduce your property tax expenditure by buying a less expensive property. Plus, more local control/input (higher property taxes vs. having a state income tax), unlike California (don't get me started on the multiple Serrano decisions ). After dealing with the Assessor's Office in my county (population just over 500,000)...a positive experience...I empathize with people in adjacent Harris County (population over 4,000,000...the 3rd most populous county in the U.S.). I'd imagine dealing with that Assessor's Office = .

Geopolitically, the only things (off the top of my head) that I like about the current situation......that Putin (quite a bully, IMO) will be reaching for more TUMS Antacid , and (in a different part of the world of course) that there is likely much hand wringing going on within the Venezuelan government.

Isn't this all political? The POTUS and his western allies getting Saudi Arabia to produce more oil than is needed so they can poke a sharp stick, where it hurts, into Vlad the Invader.
