Hello to all,

I am proud owner of 11 Yaris 3dr Manual. This will be our commuter car. After falling in love with this car when my wife and I were in PR we had to go out and get one. With fuel expected to go to $5 per gallon we had to make some moves, as my other cars are HUGE gas guzzlers. This is my way of going GREEN.

Hello. Been lurking in this forum for over a month and have spent HOURS reseraching. Some great people here. First off let me start by saying I purchased a 3 dr LB w/ Power Package in Polar White a few weeks back. And of course it is a manual :)

Let me explain my purchase. I have wanted a Yaris for several yrs now, however, until recently you had to pay an arm and a 2 legs for the safety items I wanted, minuse stability control. So I settled for the 1st generation 2008 Honda Fit Sport. The looks were not great but it was a good lil car. So then the 2nd generation Fit came out in 2009 and I purchased a top of the line model. Unfortunately I was also forced to purchase the $1,800 navi to get VSC :( The car was just under 20k loaded with every feature. I still wanted the Yaris but it did not have 6 air bags, VSC so I went with the Fit, aesthetics aside. I drove this Fit for 2 yrs w/ several minor probs all fixed under warranty. Probs included squeaky pedal(minor) to more major issues such as the drivers window CONSTANTLY, slowly edging down, requiring me to pull it up and dificulty (grinding actually) while putting it in 5th gear. I've driven a manual my entire life(since 14, and 35 now) so I know it wasn't me. The dealership was fantastic with the pedal squeak but could never fix the other 2 probs. I also forgot to mention the VERY inaccurate computer mpg guage!! I spoke to a 19 yr Honda mechanic and he also explained he was not AT ALL happy with the build quality of the 2nd generation Honda, especially for it's price and for being a Honda. SO, unhappy with the Fit I moved into a 2011 LOADED Honda Element. Problems from day two on the Element. Problems with difficulty starting(garaged all winter) to buttons on cruise control not working.

So I went to visit my sister near KC Missouri and stopped at Toyota dealer after reviewing their new inventory of Yaris's fitting my criteria. I was sooooooooo happy that Toyota finally added ABS,6 air bags, and VSC STANDARD!!! Traded in the Element, lost $2,500, or my ass, however you want to look at it. BUT I finally got what I wanted and to be honest their is NO comparison between a Honda and a Toyota in build. EVERYTHING on the Yaris is tighter and more solid than the 2nd generation Fit I had. The door shuts more soundly. The ONLY thing "better" on the Fit was the pretty dash and the cushier materials and the "magic seats." The ride of the Yaris is just as good, the seats feel great(I'm only 5'7" but I've traveled in them in 14 hr increments) and EVERYTHING feels more solid. Honda might have spent the extra money($4,700 more in my case) on a fancier interior but I would take the Yaris over the Fit anydamn day of the week. AND I'VE OWNED TWO!! I feel like a pig in shit and have a great Yaris that does everything I want it to. I considered waiting for the Scion IQ(Toyota IQ) coming late summer, but it is smaller and Idon't need to pay 4k more like I did for the Fit for a fancier interior. So if any of you out there in this forum feel like you should have bought a new Fit, I'm here to tell you you made the right decision. I know I won't be stranded on the side of the road with the Yaris and I couldn't have made a better decision.

New here

Hello all. I'm new here but not new to the Yaris. I bought my wife an 07 sedan brand new, and it's been everything we expected. So when the time came for my daily a super reliable 84 Celica gt to be replaced, I always figured I would get myself a Yaris.
Well, last week the time came and I'm now the proud owner of a 2011 3 door liftback, manuel trans, power package with alloys, Blazing Blue.

Just in time for the gas prices to reach god knows how high.

I ended up with BB too. It was also my second choice. I wanted the yellow that they showed as a color choice for 2010 but there were none when I bought mine and I've never seen one since either.

Hello. I've been driving a 2010 5-door hatch S-Limited (automatic transmission with skirts spoilers) for about 5 months now. The white (Super White for the Indonesiaan market) colour I chose is quite impressive here, since there are so many dominant metallic silver and black on the streets. More white cars are increasing in demand here, especially for luxurious Benz, Bimmer, Camry, Alphard and some big SUVs, going back to the nostalgic 1960s, but a white Yaris still looks outstanding even among similarly looking hatches, such as Mazda 2, Ford Fiesta, or Hyundai i20 (sadly, Honda Jazz is only available in pearl white here).

hello all, new here but not to Yaris. have had my '08 black 3door auto for almost 3 and a half problem-free years and 84,000miles now. it has jus recently developed a little exhaust leak, but i dont blame the car, i wrecked it at around 20,000miles and they replaced the exhaust, so i think the bodyshop messed it up, oh well. oh, the ipod port stopped working too, but thats it. other than that she has been a great car! 35-36mpg consistently with auto and i use the AC alot. tinted, TRDintake since new. i had TRD exhaust on it for the first 30,000 but i got tired of the noise.

a guy at work tells me his mechanic told him to change the timing belt at 60,000miles on his yaris, something about a daewoo engine or ?? is this true? OR when should it be changed?

my only complaint is the seat. i am 6'1" 210 and have to recline the seat way back gangsta-style because the seat is just too tall......are there any bolt-in seats available that are lower? thanx for any help!

Welcome all!

HiggsYaya,

No timing belt on the Yaris to need changing. It's a chain so you shouldn't have to touch it under normal circumstances.

Hello All,

Been surfing around getting a lot of great info,, thank you

Just bought a '10 this week, 4dr /auto /power pkg/ stock, my GF's for work, unfortunately auto was required...

So far very impressed with this little vehicle - not my first Toy, and as true with all - fit, and finish is impressive for a mass producer... road noise on OE Goodyears is a bit disappointing but they will be replaced before years end...still on the first tank,, We opted out of another Vibe/Matrix as I just got rid of my '09 and it was great, but the fuel economy of this thing sold us considering it's future ahead...

Cheers !!
