I got a ticket for my tinted front windows today in San Luis Obispo, CA. Have never had a problem in SoCal where I'm from, given that every other person has their windows tinted and cops have better things to do, but today I happen to be driving on highway 1 in a small beach town on the central coast and a CHP officer pulled me over and wrote me up a ticket.

So I have a couple of questions that I'm hoping some of you with prior experiences can answer:

1. How much is the fix-it ticket if I have the tint removed?

2. How much is the full fine if I choose not to get my tint removed?

3. Do I have to show up to court on the date indicated on the ticket regardless if I pay the fine in full or get the tint fixed?

4. If I don't get the tint removed and pay the full fine, will I continue to get tickets sent to me every month until I do fix it since they'll have me in their records as not getting the tint removed and paying the full fine?

Any input would help, thanks!

most of the time its because of the front windows prob about 50 bucks to get them taken off (its possible to take them off yourself but can but a pain in the a hole) or pay the fine and risk more tickest but still have a cooler looking car .

i am in ny and i had 50% on my front windows and still got pulled over i took them off and now im trying to go even lighter like 65 - 70% but everywhere i go they say "oh we cant get them that light 50% is the lightest" but i know i dont want 50% again

Off topic but for all of you who think cops have nothing to do, think again. Most of you won't survive a day in their shoes. Also, when poop hits the fan, who do you call? Who's going to drive code 3 to try to save your ass and to keep you safe. The reasons cops pull over people with tint is to get a probable cause on a bigger arrest. Maybe a person with a gun going to a robbery or etc. If you don't want to be pulled over, then don't tint your windows or leave the front plate off. Don't give Mr/Ms Popo a probable cause to pull yo asses over. You pay to play. Simple /rant. I'm going to tint my fronts 35%

Have fun with that. I had 35% in the front and got pulled over twice. Both times the officers acted like douches with power trips. Almost all cops I've met have power trips, which is why a lot of people do not respect cops in general.

Seriously, both spoke to me in a belittling manner. Really pissed me off, but I had to hold my tongue. One of them assumed that I exited because I saw him and had my windows partially down to hide my tint. uhhhh, wtf!? I exited because that was the exit to my school since I was on my way to a study group and I don't use my AC and roll my windows partially down to cool off. Neither of them actually tested my windows, and the one that saw my windows partially down didn't even really see them since they were all the way down when I pulled over. He even said, "you intentionally did all this, so you knew you were breaking the law, so I'm not even going to give you a warning ticket, just a straight ticket." What about cops doing 85-90 mph on the freeway without any emergency lights on or sirens? What about them using their lights just to pass a red light? What about all the laws they break, but think they are above?

I could have been a jerk and pulled out my parking permit to my school, pulled out my backpack with my studying material, and said I exited because it's my exit.

I've done both you said. Paid the fine and kept it on, then the second time, I took off the front tint myself. Wasn't going to pay to get them removed. lol. I also took off the front tint off another car too.

1. Fine is on the ticket (was $50 when I had my tint. I think it's $150 now in Cali)

2. I'm not sure that's an option

3. No, you only show up to court if you want to contest the ticket

4. If you can get the ticket signed off somehow and still have your tint, you will continue to get pulled over.

Also, from what I've seen, no domestic cars that have tints in the front (in Cali) ever get pulled over. It's always tuner cars...racial profiling much?

Really? The ticket I got doesn't say how much the fine is.

Does getting this ticket get reported to the DMV and negatively affect my driving record?

I'm thinking I might get the tint removed, go get it signed off by the CHP and pay the reduced fine. Then go get my windows re-tinted lighter.

tints do not affect driving record as its an equipment violation not a moving violation

and thats exactly what im trying to do get lighter tints like 65-70% but they are had to find for some reason every where i go they say 50% is the lightest

There's some truth to that, when I had my Mustang, cops were cool, they drove Crown Vics, we're (Ford) family

Anyhow that's life in Cali, no front plates, tinted front windows = tickets. While they won't admit it... racial and social economic profiling is alive and well.

The way you come off already tells you're not a "real cop." "Real calls" do not happen every second, so why can't a "fake cop" enforce the vehicle code? What exactly do you do for the Sheriff's Office?

I do agree that there are some jerk off cops but if you did their job for years and years, you'd be the exact same. I wouldn't say it's a power trip. I mean, imagine being called names and maybe even getting hit by a suspect and all you can do is arrest him. Any normal person would want to smack em. Imagine you arrest a suspect who raped your mother and all you can do is arrest them with "reasonable force." imagine a cop doing their job and arrests a robbery suspect and then is released because of insufficient evidence because the DA doesn't have $ to prosecute and you see the criminal in the street laughing at your face. Imagine the person who break your yaris window to steal your deck and gets away because of "insufficient evidence." wouldn't all the pressure build up? So when a cop see some petty little violation, it's quite angering ( I'm nice though ). I suppose it's not an excuse but it's understandable. All I have to say is don't let the media make you think otherwise of cops. They are there to protect you when you're in shit or when your family is in shit. Sometimes it's better to be thankful. If you have problems with the law, go fist fight the law makers. Morning posts... IDK what I just typed :) /rant2

I'm Asian and I drove a 2002 Camaro Z28 for a while and was pulled over due to 35% tint up front. Ohhhh it happens. It was an Asian cop too. Couldn't haven't seen my face.
