I call mine "Yari" or "Yazzie". It depends on which one I think of when I need to have a 'talk". Doesn't everyone talk to their cars?

What did you name your car

Mehrit, your a Dr. Who person. I like Torchwood better, I wonder if I should change mine for "Yari/Yazzy" to "Ianto".

Shark Bait. This was my friend's idea since the dealership clearly thought I WAS Shark Bait until, well, they met the real me. MUAHAHAHAHAHA!

The Big Black Car. My 3 year old likes the Wiggles, and they sing a song about "The Big Red Car". She called our 91 Civic the Big Red Car - she liked riding in the Big Red Car - by the end, I hated driving it. She really warmed up the Yaris when I called it "The Big Black Car".

The funny thing is it does feel a lot bigger than the old Civic felt.

As far as people calling small cars "coffins", why do they get so bent out of shape over people who drive small cars? It seems some people seem personally offended at seeing small cars.

It's probably because they put a lot of their own sense of power and self-esteem into their car - they drive a large vehicle, therefore they see themselves as large and powerful.

Possibilities:

1) They see drivers of small cars as weak people that they feel the need to attempt to dominate to build up their own sense of self worth.

2) They see drivers of smaller cars as self-confident enough not to need a large car to demonstrate their own power and self esteem. Therefore, they see drivers of small cars as a threat - someone who doesn't need to display strength is a stronger person than someone who does feel this need.

Consider martial artists. The very best, the most confident, know how good they are, and feel no need to demonstrate their power to others. It's the lessers who feel the need to display their might to others. It's not a show of strength, but of weakness.

The "coffin" comments are not assessments of the vehicle's objective traits, but displays of an insecure driver. Small cars, such as the Yaris can be quite safe. They conveniently forget the tendency of SUVs to roll over.

My friend, who is 1/2 Japanese, helped me find a name for my car - she named him Aoi-ko ... which she said means "little blue" in the short version .... and that is what my license plate is going to say. The long version is Chiisai Aoi, but I can only fit 7 lettes onto my specialty plate so she shortened it up :)
