It would be nice, tbendtom.
Anything that lowers fuel consumption increases national security, in my opinion. And since we import so much energy from countries that really don't like us, seems like it's the logical thing to do. Unfortunately, Americans have NEVER been smart regarding this issue, to our peril..... |

Lets hope they import the 1 liter GAS engine, NOT the 1.4 liter diesel.
Why? Now that diesel fuel is 10-20% MORE than gas diesels have become like hybrids. That is losing economic propositions. It costs more money to buy a diesel option and run it on diesel fuel than it does its gas counterpart. A lot more. Diesels used to be money saving engines. In the early 90s gas was 99 cents a gallon and diesel 79 cents (in NJ) Not only was the fuel less the engines used less of it. Now the fuel is so much more expensive (and the diesel option so much more) that its cheaper to operate a gas engine. Unless you like giving more $$$$ to Toyota. If thats the case be all means do so. But dont expect Toyota to accomodate you. They are already ripping off so much money from people willing to pay them to buy a hybrid that it doesnt make economic sense for them to import diesels.
