Won't start/ broke down
I had a cracked fuel line where they have a habitual problem and I had it rigged up until I got the part but I might have pinched it. I have spark. Car won't crank. Fuel comes out when fuel line is disconnected. I heard a strange noise I can't describe and lost all power and won't crank up. It sounds sometimes like it's trying to fire, and turns over. Where do I go from here?

Will it go on starting fluid or brake clean?

I guess the next easiest test to do is to check for spark. You can get a spark tester and there is plenty online to show you how to use one.
In order to run engines require: Fuel Air Spark Timing - Crank & Cam Exhaust Compression The fact it wouldn't go on starting fluid indicates its most likely not a fuel issue. Starter fluid is like crack cocaine for engines. Even a shitty one should go on it. The fact that it cranks rules out something like park/neutral or clutch switch. If you have spark my next suspicion would be some kind of internal issue with the engine. Which is probably beyond the average person to diagnose.

I'd remove all the spark plugs and turn the engine over by hand. Does it get tight?

Good call on move it by hand. I've already tested spark on one coil with a screwdriver and it has spark....Things are starting to look bad.

#2 cylinder threw a rod. Spark plug looks like it's been smashed with a hammer, and the piston is way further down than the matching one.

Yikes. Sorry to here that mate. Was it a 1.5 or 1.3 engine? How many miles?
You might be able to get a used engine from the scrapyard.
