NCVC Go-Kart Meet Ideas
Gauging interest for the next NCVC meet, which will be a go-kart meet. The three places are either Driven Raceway (for those that went last time, you guys should remember it) in Fairfield, or Umigo Racing in Livermore, or Malibu Grand Prix in Redwood City
Comparing go-karts: http://www.drivenraceway.com/go-karts.htm http://umigoracing.com/aboutus.aspx Pro and cons for each: Driven Pros - faster go-karts (can be 45, but we'll most likely be going 40 mph) - instant acceleration (due to electric motors) - 3 separate races - adds to our race count (for those who attended the last one) - chance to rematch against me - NEW TRACK, NEW TRACK Cons - more expensive ($45) - shorter races (about 4 minutes each) Umigo Pros - longer race (15 minutes) - cheaper ($25 if a membership is not necessary, $35 if a membership is required) - would be a different track for those who attended the previous go-kart meet Cons - only one race - gradual acceleration (due to gas powered karts) Malibu Pros - unlimited laps - cheapest ($21) - new track for those that went to the last go-kart meet Cons - slower karts If voting for Malibu, just say you are voting for it. I don't think I can add another poll option now. lol Last edited by Kaotic Lazagna; 07-28-2011 at 02:38 PM. |

Laz i would even throw in Malibu Gran Prix out in redwood city. Granted the cars aren't as fast but they have a "White Knuckle Night" program on SUNDAY where from 5pm til close its unlimited laps for 20.99. (friday starts @ 7pm)

just an update... i delivered next to the Malibu Gran prix a few days ago and here's what i found.
-decent speed (people werent going wot) -longest track outta the three choices -3 different cars to drive (might be age related) -U get a drivers license HA HA a con is its lap times not racing so really no way to pass unless the one in front drives super slow or goes off track... NO WALLS IN THIS ONE |

It starts at 5pm and goes till it gets dark. i would think at least 8pm. the place closes later then that but for safety reasons the track would close before that. There is mini golf arcades bumper boats and food. kinda like driven.

My only concern with Malibu is all of us getting to race in the same race. If people get there before us, I'm sure they won't be leaving until it closes, cuz I sure wouldn't either. lol

this is true but i know the manager there lol. My old job got me some connects. i can talk to him and see what he can do about reserving a certain amount of spots for us. Once every else puts in there 2cents then we can go from there. as of right now mawr tuning!!!

aren't the malibu karts just cheap "skandia" style kids go karts with lawnmower engines? although the unlt'd laps is kinda cool though.
I vote for malibu if the karts are decent, and umigo if they aren't :)

what about gokart racer in burlingame? Ill look up some info, but its racing and not laptime. Iv done the unlimited gokart non kid one at malibu before, afterwards my hands were shaking and everything felt lighter than it really is.

Garm no we dont have a date set its more of a brainstorming tread. And the karts at Malibu would be like and Endro race with total laps and laptimes.

Kaotic, I'm going to set a few dates, and it looks like a tie for the two places.
ezhacker1, that has really odd timings and days. It's not open as much as the other two places. I'm narrowing it down to the two in the poll. This will be somewhat easier for people wanting to attend. P.S. Kaotic - Franz just contacted me earlier today (Wed). He might be down These are the dates I have in mind: Aug 12, 13, 14 Aug 19, 20, 21 Aug 26, 27, 28 (might be difficult for those starting semester colleges, like myself) Which dates work out for everyone? |

LOLOLOL, August 12 is my birthday, so I'll be at Driven for my free race. hahaha.
But yeah, Driven in Fairfield will be changing their track design starting on August 1, so it'll be new to all of us. The 21st would work for me. The 26th would be the latest as I would like to be back in Sac to prepare for the semester. Last edited by Kaotic Lazagna; 07-28-2011 at 11:29 PM. |
