Grinding Noise While Turning
Hello!
I am pretty stumped with what is going on with my 2007 Yaris. There is a grinding noise while turning right at full lock I took the wheel off and 7 out of the 8 lug studs on the front snapped off so those were all pounded out, removed the rust from the hub assembly and pulled the new studs into place. upon inspection I found my brake pads were pretty worn out, so I replaced them along with the rotors and both calipers. I also discovered the outboard CV boot torn so that was replaced as well. It is still grinding after replacing all of these parts and I cannot duplicate the problem running the vehicle on my hoist, it only grinds with the suspension loaded. |

Did you check the problematic control arm bolt on the '07-'09s? I know if it has snapped you'll here clunking, but who knows, maybe under stress of a full turn, the arm could be scraping a bit on the sub-frame.
Must have been some seriously over torqued lugs on those studs.

Strut mount bearing? I'd also check the sway bar end links and see what type of condition they're in.

CV joint, does it when turning.
Always check boots to avoid this. |

The torn boot led to dirt getting inside the CV joint. Its toast and probably whats making the noise. Just putting a new boot on wont fix it.
You need a new axle Im afraid.

I will have to look into the control arm bolt
Sorry for not clarifying, the entire CV shaft has been replaced and is still making the same grinding noise. It is not the strut bearing because it does not make noise while turning the wheel. it grinds during the turn over 5 mph sway bar links are tight. |

Disk brake backing plate's will make that noise if out of true and to close to rotor will only do this on full lock under load is one possibly

I second Exi's point about the backing plate. When I changed my echo's end links I bent the left backing plate slightly when I was using my jack to compress the suspension to access the top bolt. This led to a slight grinding (scissor slicing) noise when turning right at any speed as long as the turn was sharp enough.

Left Wheel.
inspected the backing plate, did not see any bent or contact with rotor, bent it a little more away from the rotor just for good measure. no change, same grinding noise |

wheel wells
Did you check to see if your tires are not rubbing the inside wheel well covers?
Those things get out of whack pretty easy. They are some really cheapo plastic. |
