If you are out of warranty i'd go to your local corner mechanic/talyer and have the job done for half of what the dealer is charging. If you can do the job yourself the waterpump can be had for less than $100, or around $60 from this link.
http://www2.partstrain.com/store/ind...t=Water%20Pump Your dealer quote of $500 for just the part is outrageous if you are talking the equivalent of American dollars and explains why most people hate dealers, over here American built car dealers are closing everywhere due to economics, all i can say is Aint karma a bitch. Yes, you would be totally screwed if you let the dealer fix this.

Bending over and getting raped by the dealer FTL. Seriously DIY or take it to a local mechanic. Guaranteed it will cost half as much if not less.

Although it isn't a water pump, when I needed a new fuel pump for a 92 Lexus the dealer wanted $350, Toyota was asking $250. I got it from Auto Zone for $100.
