Indicator relay removal
Hi folks
Gotta small problem. Was struggling to remove the haz/indicator relay on a 02 1 litre yaris. Couldn't seem to pull it out so pulled a bit harder and then found out about the side tabs when the relay and plastic mounting from fuse box snapped & came out too. Went to dealer to order new relay & asked how to remove the relay & was told dealers use tool to release tabs. What does this tool look like and how do you use it becuase i can't see how you can get anything down side of relay to do it. No room at all! Thanks Ste |

Some car manufacturers include a plastic relay pulling tool along with the fuse one. The other option is a set of relay puller pliers like these:

Thanks for the replys. Ive posted a picture of the relay to show the side locking tabs. These fit into fusebox so you can see the lower diameter of the relay is smaller than the top so how can you get a tool to the tabs to release them when its fits flush to fusebox. Cover is off relay to breakage.

This is a photo of the fusebox with the relay plug broken off with the pins visible and also a photo of the relay with broken piece. Bear in mind that there is limited room above the fuse box also.

I finally found a reference about removing this type of relay in the service manual. It says to use a small screwdriver to lift the tabs with the blade wrapped in tape (to avoid shorting contacts that are accidentally touched).
