Not 1, Not 2 but 3 Yari in our school shop!

It has been an exciting week in our school shop - well, exciting for me and the student owners of these cars.

We have 2 sedans and my 08 LE in the shop and it's been a great learning experience for the kids.

The jobs we're doing are general light maintenance including:

- computer scans with Toque Pro OBD2
- oil analysis (via the Lubricheck oil analyser) and oil change on one sedan
- air filter checks and replacement on one sedan
- spark plug checks and replacement on one sedan (plugs ordered)
- serpentine belt replacement on one sedan and belt tension adjustment on the other
- undercoating on both sedans
- brake fluid testing
- fluid top ups on both cars
- coolant testing and level check - one had an almost empty reservoir
- transmission fluid level check and likely replacement on both. Likely just a drain and fill with WS for each.

Next week:
- brake bleeding, caliper pin cleaning and general brake inspection

The kids that own these cars are really enthusiastic about learning about their Yaris'. Naturally, I've told them about Yaris World.

Start 'em off on a good foot.. lol

Makes a great car - cheap to buy good used, easy on fuel, parts aren't too expensive for regular maintenace..

and very fun with a proper set of tires and the gumption.

My car-caine intro car was a 68 nova at an autoshop behind a bowling alley...

Awesome! If they have manual transmissions, pleading the clutch should be done yearly also.

Yeah, it's funny. Some of the students have a keen interest in cars and proper maintenance, the others could absolutely care less. We tested oil from a few students cars and my guess is that it had not been changed in years. A couple barely measured on the dipstick, one not at all and in most cases the oil was very tar-like. Fortunately, one of the Yaris owners wants to do everything he can to get his car in tip top running order. He's willing to open his wallet a bit for plugs, fluids, filters etc. Nice to see for sure.

Both are automatic, but if a manual comes in, I'll definitely investigate the procedure, or have the owner/student do it.
