Mobil 1 versus Royal Purple
Which is better and why? (caveat: I know this will get lots of differing opinions; I just want to read them all!)

That is the thing. They are only opinions. Don't believe the hype. Just know they're both better than regular oil.

I've used both and I'll be honest... I can't tell the difference. I do know I can get one cheaper than the other though.

I get the 5-quart jugs of Mobil1 5W-30 at walmart for $19.99. After taxes, it works out to $4.33/quart out the door. The cheapest I can get Royal Purple for is $6.50/quart out the door.
