ZPI....I Have question's

few questions for ZPI folks...

1. On an automatic, you said in the past it would be de-tuned for a lower HP, to save the tranny, so what HP rating are we talking about?

2. Whats the turn-around time ( ordered-built-shipped) on a turbo kit for an automatic vs. stick yaris.

3. what other aftermarket stuff is required for an automatic yaris?

4. whats this about a CEL after the turbo install???

5. since the turbo kit is a lower HP rating, is a intercooler really needed?

6. rumours about speakerman breaking his car after turbo install?????

thanks

This is a public forum and information is to be shared. It is not a place to share good experiences and sweep the bad under the rug!

I've done some reading on other forums recently. Threads like this one pop up at least once every couple months. Enjoy the five pages of goodness:

ok, fine. I just don't want to be labeled a hater because I "bash" that company. I honestly think they have serious issues that any potential customer should consider before they buy.

Here is my PM, duly copied:

I've been tuning cars for a while now, have a Scion tC pushing 443 whp and 474 torque. When I was doing my motor build, ZPI single-handedly cost me nearly 10 weeks in delays because of broken promises and lack of communication.

ZPI has caused me nothing but grief, both in product development and in the absolute lack of customer support. As recently as last month, I couldn't get a straight answer on when they would ship me a crank pulley for the Yaris.

I think for simple parts they are probably fine, but for large projects like a turbo install, something is guaranteed to require their assistance -- and you may or may not get it. So there is a first-hand story for you.

Looks like you get the point now. I know it sucks, but mostly ALL the vendors here are just here to "bump" their product posts, and every now and then stop in just to post up something else.

I guess thats fine, but every other forum I belong to, the vendors are a part of the family, and post and share other info, besides what "deals" they have extended this week.

Looks like you need to read the replys in this post a little closer.

If you have a question for ZPI, a phone call is whats going to get your answers.

well.... I dont have any affliation to ZPI aside from being friends with the guys, but here is the answer to your questions to the best of my knowledge.

1. in the 160-170 whp range
2. the kits should be built (last I talked with kenny) the main difference is the tune on the ecu as for between stick and auto
3. they offer an upgraded valve body for smoother crisper shifting with the increase in power. I would also upgrade the tranny cooler. Other then that, just gauges and obviously exhaust.
4. as described before, the CEL is caused by the removal of the front O2 sensor, no matter what turbo kit you ever buy, it looks like this may remain a problem for us (unless someone comes up with a bypass for the CEL) the reason is that the front O2 sensor is what causes the learning in our ECUs so therefore if you were to keep it, the increased EGTs would throw the computer off the deepend severly messing with your tune.
5. you will still need the intercooler as the boost level is the same. I believe (in my previous experience with different cars) that the lower power levels is actually caused by 2 things gear ratio (4 gears as opposed to 5 in a manual) and also the cams found in an auto are more conservative to allow for a smoother shift through a stock setup.
6. dunno anything about speakerman, but personally anyone that buys a turbo simply for show deserves to have their car blow up... and 20s on a yaris... I mean come on
