No RPM signal? Any ideas?

I installed a tach a few months ago with the provided wire clips. When I lost the rpm signal I figured it was because of a bad connection. However now I've made a new connection and the tach is not reading any rpm. All fuses are good and the tach is powering on. Is it possible or likely that it's a connection inside the guage itself? It's one of those 30 dollar sunpro things after all. Anyone in the NYC area have a scangauge?

If this damn car came with a tachometer in the first place, all this hassle could be avoided.

I appreciate any thoughts...

I'd agree with Tamago, I think the tach may have crapped out. I have the same tach and it's already starting to deteriorate (moisture is creeping in behind the face).

Make sure to check your power/ground connection too.

Problem solved...for now. I walked around the corner and bought another tach. Same brand different size. In six months when this breaks I will buy something decent. I just HAVE to have a tach. On this car with such a silent stock engine and exhaust its so hard to tell what the engine is doing without some visual indication. Did I mention I think it's lame that toyota didn't spec one?

Thanks a lot guys.

I agree. I can't live without a tach either and the quiet enging and exhaust just add to the problem as you said.

Anyway, this is why I recently ordered a SpeedHut "revolution" tach for my new (manual tranny) Yaris.
