White lithium grease spray was only $2.47 a can at Walmart. 30 seconds of my time and my squeak is gone! :) Kind of awkward due to the radiator hose being in the way.

I had the same squeak. I'm at about 83,000 miles. If you like instant gratification, this is a good one! WOW! Problem fixed the INSTANT i sprayed the part highlighted with the yellow circle and two yellow dots. WAY smoother shifting now, way less friction!. Huge difference (and I just changed my manual transmission oil to the Redline MT-90 stuff, and that helped slightly but was nothing compared to lubing these shifting linkages). I used Johnsen's Multi-Purpose Silicone Lubricant. Time will tell how long it lasts. If it lasts a long time, good, if not, next time I'm going to use a White Lithium Grease Spray. I removed the intake air filter box to make the access easier, but it's not completely necessary. Also, while my friend moved the stick through the gears, I sprayed all the moving parts, not just the "yellow circle with two dots" part. Thanks guys! This is a great forum!

I sprayed lithium grease on the linkage with great result the squeak disappeared.

But is it a sign that there's something wrong with the linkage? Like it needs to be replaced? because it's worn or something etc.

My Yari is going great i'm happy to report it's an 07, 3-door hatch, 1.5 ltr engine. It's done 155 556 km and it's still going and keeps going. Touch wood!

I sprayed the linkage added red line mt 90 along with nulon gearbox treatment. I changed the plugs, air filter, oil filter and of course did regular engine oil changes using full synthetic.

Had wheel alignment and it's going well. I feel a bit of an improvement to the way it's running. Touch wood hoping it continues.

Next in line is front brake pad change :)

Yeah I was also using silicone for this, but it turns out that stuff only works while its viscosity is just right... After that it ends up making things worse, according to the mechanic.

Thanks. I bought this and was able to spray from the top of the hood area by sliding the can between the radiator and the engine. The I made my way over to the right and had that red spray pipe from the can right inside that gap to spray. Just have to figure out the rear drum squeak now.

If only the girlfriend had not mentioned that squeak to me I may still be living in ignorance.. it is a bliss! :)

Just take the drums off and clean the dust out. The squeak should go away.

Funny thing is that a mecanic from a local shop told me the same, he said I'll have to remove the transmision to lub it... . my biggest squick was when I press the clutch pedal, was making a huge squick! The toyota dealer fixed it for 28$.

Love it so far

Tranny squeak

Has anybody figure out how to lube the inside transmission clutch fork pivot area? I mean without removing major hardware. red arrows in this picture.

I also just oiled the yellow circled section and the problem went away immediately. When I had the car up on my ramps doing the gear oil I gave it an extra shot of spray from underneath too for extra luck. Unfortunately I used silicone spray because it was on sale for 2.50 a can and the white lithium grease spray was 8.99 lol.

Soooo, for the record, my silicone spray lasted only 1 day per lube. I sprayed with white lithium that I had to go back to the store and buy 5 days ago and its still not squeaking. Don't waste your time with silicone spray.

Does this also apply to automatic transmissions? Because my car has had a similar squeek for 3 months now ...

No. An automatic does not have the mechanism that this thread is discussing.

hey guys i just registered. im from the philippines and got a 2014 vios which is sort of a sibling of the yaris. found this thread due to a squeak in shifting gears (manual). so anyway thanks to the thread starter my problem got a quick fix instead of lining up in the dealership. i used an ordinary oil lubricant with paintbrush and glazed the joints.

the cause of the squeak, as recalled, was by engine wash. some newbie overdid it using a pressure wash. so a tip out there for squeaking shift gears after an engine wash, the grease from the shift joints inside the engine bay must have absorbed some water and in the process pushed away some of the lunricants.

hope this reply helps.

super thanks to this thread!

No, the auto gearbox does not have the clutch lever. Must be something else.
