09 Yaris No Start
Thanks in advance for any help. This is my mothers car, and became my problem after my step dad replaced the fuel pump in hopes of a cure. Lets start with the background. 2009 yaris, automatic, 170k. It died while driving, wouldn't start back up. Cranks just fine. I scanned it for codes with none found. I found that the fuel pump had voltage and would run during crank, but not for the initial key on. I can spray starting fluid down the intake and it will start but dies as soon as i stop spraying, with the fuel pump running the entire time, so it appears that I'm not getting any injector pulse. Any help would be MUCH appreciated ( my mom seems to want to call every hour and ask if I figured it out yet )

CTScott is the man you need to hear from, but since he lives in the Northeast, he is probably out clearing snow.

Did you pull the fuel line at the motor to make sure it's flowing?
Could be a filter. |

It really sounds like the engine immobilizer is not happy and therefore not allowing the injectors to be driven. If the engine immobilizer light (on the dash by the windshield) is still flashing when the key is placed into the ignition, then the ECM is preventing the injectors from firing.

I dont believe this model has an immobilizer, no light on the dash like my camry, and no extra plastic hardware around the ignition

Check the following: 20 A EFI fuse in the under hood fuse panel At the injectors, with the ignition switch in the on position, remove the connector from injector #1 (closes to the belt) and check for 12V on the green wire. If that is present, check the following: If you remove the lower steering column cover (two screws behind the steering wheel, which are visible when it is rotated slightly and a third by the tilt wheel lever) you can access the ignition switch connector. On it, check the following: Yellow and Grey wires should have 12V with ignition off White should have 12V with ACC on Green and Pink should have 12V with IG in ON position Black should have 12V while cranking the starter

Try one more thing - Listen closely to the injectors while trying to start it to see if you can hear them clicking away.

OK.
Also, check the following: AM2 fuse (in under hood) Put your ear against the plastic block that that fuse is mounted to and listen for the relays inside to click. When someone inside the car turns the ignition from off to on, you should hear two relays click.

That fuse is good, I also physically removed the integrated relay block and pulled them out and can physically watch them close also found out the third relay was the horn when I didn't see it close I used a toothpick to close it lol. The bruise on the back of my head should be gone in a few days lol

So, it really does sound like the ECM is the issue. If you can get your hands on one from a same tranny type 07-09, you can verify that very quickly. If you grab an 09, make sure it too is a non-immobilizer one. Since you don't have the immobilizer, there are no issues with swapping it. If you happen to have a manual transmission, I have a spare one on hand that I could program with you VIN and ship to you.
