How much gearbox oil is too low?
Hello!
So at first I thought my gearbox capacity is 1.9L so I bought 2L of transmission oil. But when I discovered that mine is 2.4L (6-speed)... Can I drive a car with 300-400ml~ deficiency while another oil bottle is arriving? Last edited by noname456; 03-13-2022 at 08:17 AM. |

I'd fill it and see if you can touch it with your finger. Or wait to drain till the extra bottle comes.

Probably it would be OK, but I wouldnt do it.
Why risk damaging a very expensive component of your car?

When the shop changed my left axle recently, they did not change the axle sealing properly and the gearbox oil was leaking for a month.
When I discovered that I immediately topped the oil up - it consumed almost a litre of oil. I was driving the car daily and have not noticed any issue during that period. So I would probably recommend to wait till your oil comes in but if you are in a desperate need of driving (need to take someone to a doctor etc.) then I would not worry about it and just drive... |
