Power Outlet Mod - Toyota Yaris Forums

Ok, one thing that has bothered me since I got my Yaris is the fact that it only had one power outlet. On top of that it was located behind the e-brake lever which made it a pain to plug anything in. I decided to install a couple more 12v outlets so I can plug in my IPOD and the window mount for my nav system. I also wanted them to be hidden. I decided to install these outlets in the compartments on either side of the AC switches. The whole thing only took me about two hours. I was surprised how easy the console pieces came out. Most of them snap in and I only had to remove 6 screws.

Here are the tools I used.

Here is one of two outlets I got from the local auto parts chain.

I pulled the center console and located the wires for the existing outlet which I tied the other two wire into.

I measured the diameter of the outlet which is a hair under 7/8"

I then figured out the best place to install the outlets. This was tough because there is other things behind these compartments
Here is the drivers side outlet.

Here is the passenger side outlet. You can barely see the aux port opening on the right.

Here is the backside of the passenger side compartment with the driverside removed. Luckily there was enough space between the two for an outlet to be installed.

Now I have a spare outlet for other things like my cell phone charger. Yay!

Did you move your aux port as well? Mine is by the e-brake.

No I wanted to keep the aux port in the compartment because the mini jack plugs into the charger itself. So now I have one cable that plugs into my IPOD that supplies the power and the audio. If I remember I will post pics of my setup.

Sorry I didnt take a picture of the drill bit. I believe it was a 7/8" drill bit.

hey, I was wondering where did you find that power outlet? I have the same brand but without the rubber "top" (no need, as I always have my phone chargers plugged in) but I'm looking at putting an outlet in the back of the center console for the back seat (for when I go on trips, and the greedy bastards want to steal the front seat outlet) and it would be nice for that one to have the rubber top on it.

I got them from Checker Auto (which is also the same as Schucks or Kragen). I not sure which on the east coast.

I have a 2010 Yaris Sedan. My outlet isn't working, how do I remove the center console to install the new one I bought? Any tips guys?

i would check the fuse first if i were you. down below, just above the clutch and brake pedals. you have to peep from below, head on the carpet looking up.

to your Q:
1) pop out the bottom center piece of the HVAC controls, just below the temp knob. (the U-shaped piece) start hooking your fingers from below.

2) remove the trim piece of the shifter cover--it pops right up, but you have to unscrew the shift knob to remove it completely, as well as unplug all connectors to any of your switches there/aux input port.

3) the handbrake cover piece (where the cigarette plug is attached to) pops right off as well. Remember to keep the armrest compartment open. the 12V has a plug to it as well.

Nice write-up. I've done a similar mod (3/4" high) and highly recommend it if you're unsatisfied with the stock seat position. You appear to be using an grade 8.8 (strength rating) bolt. For safety, you should use the same as stock uses, grade 10.9.
