Check Engine "Injector failure Code"

Hey

On friday morning I started the car and suddenly the "Check Engine" light was on. I drove the car all day until noon when I disconected the battery and the "check engine" light turned off. But satuday night it was back on. So I call a friend and we scan the car and the code shown was; the problem was in the Injector of the forth Cylinder. Weird thing is the car works just fine and all the other things were normal except that code. We clear the code with the scanner but I'am still worried.

Have u guys seem something like this? What can it be?

Run it in to your dealer so at least it's on record. Also, I have read these "small" injectors are prone to clogging easily?

Not to wag my finger and give you any kind of parental speech, but why didn't you take it to the dealership in the first place? You are under warranty, right?

Check engine lights aren't something to just clear and hope it doesn't come back- it means something is wrong!

Reasons for injector failure code:
Injector open circuit
ECM open circuit (I believe it is bank 6, pin 14- could be wrong)
A/F sensor malfuntion
Fuel pump shorting
Carbon deposits on the injector
-your vehicle could actually run "normally" with all of these conditions.

Even worse, if the scantool is a generic scantool you buy at an auto parts store, the code could be wrong (I see that everyday- customers come in with an "AutoZone code" and it's dead wrong).

You gotta get it checked by a dealership, bro.

Yeah, take it to your dealership. No reason not to... shit, until that warranty is up make them sick of you. Its your right as an owner.

Sounds like it MAY be a good excuse for some NGK's though.

Update: Took the car to the dealer(warranty) and No code showed up since they can only get a code if the car has the "check engine" light on(damn I cleared it). They told me next time it lights up bring it. But they did a general chek-up of the car and said everything was normal... except the gas tank cover was broken... they did order it. I'driving the car as I did befor the light went on... i'll wait and see what happens.

Just thinking...... when the light came on It was a week after I had taken the moffler out. At first it accured to me it must have been a sensor of air or something but i put everytjing back to normal and reset the computer and it was gone for a whole day then came back on so I discarted that idea..

Your fuel door was broke??? You know if your gas cap isnt on tight it might pull a CEL code. Says so right there on the gas cap. "Tighten until 1 click is heard, CEL may appear if not tightened properly" or something like that.

Just try re-tightening your gas cap. Mine only makes like the tinyest clicking sound. Its not like most where once you turn it so far there is like a strain relief that breaks it free. Pretty much just put it on realllll tight.

You cant really base anything on the engine codes. It might say its the injectors but who knows what it REALLY is. Hope that fixed it.

If the gas cap was loose the scantool should read PO446. The code is an evap system code- it has nothing to do with injector failure.

So, if the gas cap was indeed loose, it appears the scantool was incorrect.

BTW, I have never seen a Toyota factory scantool read a code incorrectly- their only funtion is to convey the message the CEL is trying to tell you.

I can see how a Toyota scan tool will never be wrong. However, calling a friend and scanning the car does not sound like they used a Toyota scan tool.

If it aint the one at the service center it will prolly give you the same code as if you did a self diagnostic check.
