there is no sound proofing on these cars whatsoever, check the curb weight, there isn't much to them at all

my vw was super quiet but it was also pretty heavy, and sluggish

I think most of those noise comes from the rear floorpan and under the backseats - there's no sound proofing there under the carpet (tap hard on the carpet and you'll feel metal) - I'm thinking of putting some insulation there - other than that theres insulation in most places (well in my yaris anyway).
May be a good idea to put extra insulation under the engine hood also...

I was thinking in my golf there was layers in the wheel wells and between the engine and the cab that I have not noticed in the yaris at all, maybe I'm wrong

far more road noise/ engine noise compared to my vw but I can sacrifice that for good gas mileage, reliability and peppiness that the golf had none of

lol funny u mention it, I got a clip with me just givin the little 1.5L a beating and you can almost hear when the car hits 3k rpm onwards. I have a 2" exhaust from the trees with a straight trough muffler and sports cat.

...all of a suddden in the clip it gets louder when im heading in a straigh line, but when im driving you dont really notice the change.

not hearing anything man.i will go get a vid when i drive tml and upload so u guys can see if theres anything wrong with my car

my friend reckoned that its because im always driving at 140 during interstate and that realli will spoil such a small engine ~~ sounds like a random comment but somehow it bothers me.

haha yeah thats would be it...

driving 140 is almost insane give the weight and the engine capacity of the car...

Yes alot of road and wind noise once you get pass 100 not to mention if you are driving over rough bitumen or concrete it will rebound even more noise back to the cabin...

Changing your OEM tyres for something more 'quieter' might help but not significantly I presume...

Cheers

nah.im pretty sure that the noise are from the engine.i was in uni today and was standing besides my friend driving his yaris past me and its clear that not only my car gives that disturbing noise.

guess giving it a new intake and muffler would cover that noise and gives a more sexy sound.but i guess my gf would hate that idea.she is not letting me adding a spoiler cos she said it sucks.damn.still negotiating with her if i can get a nice 17" rims. she finally approve me getting the HID lights once i got my pay next month.

Ya'll want to hear loud... I should take a sound clip from the inside of my car.... I have the rear interior stripped, a header, and 2.25" from the Cat back with a new res and a 40 series flowmaster... cruisin down the freeway at 80MPH(130KPH) you really gotta crank the radio up to over power the noise
