14 Yaris Oil Change

Hey guys, I looked around but all the links I could find related to this were broken...

Just wondering what the final word is on viscosity in the southeast us and mileage intervals for average driving using synthetic oil. Also is there a specific oil and filter that works best for these cars?

I don't have a manual and get conflicting info from Google especially with tsbs thrown in the mix... thanks!

You can easily go at least 10,000km on any synthetic oil. I go 13,000km on mobil 1 0w30 but that is based on getting a used oil analysis done. I drive pretty hard each week and live in an area with temperature extremes and some traffic.

I'd stick with 5w30, the 1nz likes that. As for the filter, go with any reputable company (Purolator, K&N, Mann, etc) they will all be fine.

QFT. No need to overthink your situation.

Went to the Toyota dealer and changed the oil in my Camry last week and my Yaris just this morning. Full synthetic 0-20 in both cars. I'm in Southern California where it gets quite hot and the traffic is terrible.

Didn't come with an owners manual at the dealer I bought it from.

So why run thinner oil if your in hot climate? Hotter the climate thicker the oil one should use.
On my Yaris I stay with 5w30 syn all yr round on our Juke that has a turbo I go to 5w40 for summer weather and w30 winter.
I find 0w20 is like water and the only reason Toyota uses is cos it saves on fuel economy but not your engine in the long run....just saying.

FYI, I ended up using Castrol edge full synthetic 5w30 and a Purolator boss filter. They were on sale, so that's what I went with.

You can see the full owners manual on toyota.com or more specifically http://www.toyota.com/t3Portal/docum...f/OM52A16U.pdf

Toyota calls for 5W30 so just stick with that in the future. Also IMHO using synthetic oil is a generally a waste of money unless you're using the car in extreme operating conditions like -40 winter conditions, 100% city stop and go driving, very long service intervals or racing.

5w-30 Amsoil full synthetic since the first 5K change. Followed the 5K mile interval and viscosity per the owner's manual, until it was out of warranty, and have been running 15K mile intervals since, using an Amsoil EA filter at each change. Almost 160K miles on my 09 here in Northern California, no leaks nor consumption, and highway fuel economy has held steady at about 36 MPG.

I put 16K miles on it in the first 18 months, nearly all of that in stop-and-go city traffic. Ran it for five years nearly all highway mileage when my commute changed- averaged 29K miles per year, with a high of 46K miles in one year. Lately back to short trip/city driving and fewer miles (commute to work changed again, and now let Amtrak do the driving). In any case, 5W30 synthetic in all temps and for all types of driving, most of that at long interval change outs. The 1NZ-FE is another Toyota workhorse. I'm hoping it will equal my 93 pickup and it's 22R-E with 370K miles on the block.

Toyota released a TSB a couple years ago to move to 20 weight so that is what many have done.
