Common problem among hatchbacks. An easy fix is to get a spoiler. It'll carry the dirty air further behind your car before it drops and swirls around.

I suffer with splash back when the snow melts or the roads are wet.

Before rear window wipers became popular, station wagons used to have rear window deflectors that directed air flow down the rear glass. Maybe there is an aftermarket part?

I had installed a OEM spoiler on my 08 yaris. It really reduced most of the problem, but did not eliminate it. Now my new 2010 does not have a spoiler - yet. Thats on my list after cruise control. I purchased my 08 spoiler on ebay already painted and it matched perfectly. I had the dealer do the install due to the fact some drilling is required. That way any issues with the drill holes rusting or cracking etc. become a warranty issue and is covered..

"The rear window and back of the car gets very dirty" I know I have the same problem with my tires, take it out of the garage and the tires get dirty, just don't know how to keep them clean other than never driving the car.

I guess there's no real solution for us ATM except to just keep a cool head and wash the car every week lol

If it is dust that you are talking about on the rear window, try california car duster it will save you the hassle to clean it every time.

Move.
Seriously, you live down a three-mile dirt road...what vehicle wouldn't get dirty when you drive down it?

The rear of my car is filthy too. It's the nature of the beast I'd say.
BTW, if it's that dusty, check your air filter frequently too.

^ I wonder about your post.
Because a spoiler actually can help with the problem, just as people posted up. That's kind of the purpose of the site, isn't it? RBK spoiler will make a difference too. It did on my car, so add that to the list.

Lol...i wonder about the people ''driving'' in america...more and more.
Like most have said, a spoiler helps but doesn't eliminate. If you wipe it down w/a rag twice a week, it'll stay clean throughout the year. If you also arch your rear wiper at a 115-125 degree angle, it will TREMENDOUSLY help not collecting dirt/dust. |
