enable DRL at Yaris 2009-2011
Hi,
I have the car description of my car in my signature... It's a german version. My car have no automatically DRL. I asked Toyota Germany because of this - and they said they have no recommendation for the Toyota auto repair shops how to enable it. And they have no idea which accessories market DRL module could be well. Maybe someone of you have an idea how to enable the automatically DRL at my car? If this is not possible, maybe because of the for Germany built cable tree... Which accessories market DRL module you would recommend which I could install? As far as I know, the DRL module must switch on the complete running lights. This means the low beam and 'city light'? (if I park the car in darkness on the street) at the front and the tail light and license plate light at the rear - all 100 %, not dimmed (oh nice german road traffic regulatory approval ). Thanks |

Looking at the European Yaris wiring diagrams, there are significant wiring difference between one with and one without DRLs. That would not make it practical to add the Toyota DRL module since you would have to change the harness.
The easiest way to have DRLs would be to do my "headlights off with the ignition" modification, which allows you to leave the headlight switch on, but the lights turn off automatically when you turn off the key: http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14427

'The easiest way'? ...for you. If I would tell the mechanic in the Toyota repair shop what he should do... - if I could tell him... Maybe an aftermarket DRL modul is available what he could install? To now I couldn't find one. Thanks |

Philips DRL4 or DRL8 have the proper relay. The DRL8 dim when you turn the parking or headlights on... Nice and high quality aftermarket DRLs. Just installed mine.

Thanks
But I wanted 'just' that the original running light (low beam + tail light and so on) will be switched on if I drive. No extra LED-DRL installation. To now I think this will not seen well enough. The installed headlights are bigger and from far the light is seen better. But, you could tell me that the other way would be better... If you have one day the possibility and time to make two pictures from far - one with original headlights - and then one with LED-DRL - so we could compare... This would be super if possible (this would help me much) - but it's also O.K. if not. You have the Philips DRL8 installed? Self made? (By the way, your first message - welcome! ) |

I will post a few pics soon. These DRLs are as bright as the sun! From what I understand Philips DRL are the only aftermarket approved DRL in Europe. Very simple to install, yes I installed myself. Go to http://www.led-drl.co.uk/cars/

Thank you very much!
For a few minutes I started a poll: DRL: Low beam or -lamps - or not?. Please could you post your pictures there then? Thanks |
