2008 Yaris hatchback Hitch weight limit

I am going to buy a 2008 2-door hatchback. I plan on installing a hitch (maybe the hidden hitch).

I am going to install a bike rack that weight 60lbs. I will also be putting two 45lb bikes on there from time to time. Total weight 150lb.

Will that weight push down the springs so that the car will start to sag? Will it damage the car? A friend with a similar setup on a subaru installed heavier springs.

Thanks

You should be fine with that, provided that the hatch area is not loaded to the gills as well.

I don't exactly know what you are meaning by 'sag'. You will compress the springs some, don't think that you won't. Based on my experience, I'm guessing about 3/4". On stock suspension you'll be fine. I didn't have any issues until I installed 1.5" lowering springs. Bottomed out real easy then.

Don't forget about the weight of the hitch as well. With it, plus carrier, plus bikes, you're introducing close to 200 lbs hanging out past the rear axle.

Good point on the hitch weight. I just checked out HiddenHitches website - the hitch weighs 18.5lbs. So 168lbs.

Is 200lbs hanging out past the rear too much for the yaris?
