engine question... (2ZR-FE and 2ZZ-GE)

the first one is the new yaris TS engine and the second one is the celica TS engine.

both are 1.8, both are vvt-i, both are 16v.

the yaris engine produce 133 bhp, but the celica engine produce 190 bhp.

what do i miss?

VVTL-i and a GE vs FE head

2ZR is economy-oriented, 2ZZ is performance oriented, basically!

bet you can swap the FE head with a GE head..
so you'd have a 2ZR-GE...

and later generation of the 2ZZ only outputs 180 on the celica and 170 on the corolla.. hehe funny shit.

I doubt it'll work properly... the 2ZZ has variable lift, which is controlled by the ECU. If you put that head on a non variable lift engine, the ECU won't know anything about it... Unless you change the ECU as well, but that's certainly another can of worms...

Oh and yeah, there are certain sub-versions of the 2ZZ as mentioned, with different outputs... Standard Toyota spec is 180hp for the Celica, Lotus tweaked their version to 190hp (or 230hp if I am not mistaken with a supercharger in the Exige S), and the Corolla version was de-tuned I think to suit some regulations (as it's not considered a sports car like the Celica, it probably needs to be quieter, I dunno...)

all 2zzge's put down the same at-wheel horsepower, despite what the brochures say

2zrfe would fit in the yaris MUCH more easily than a 2zzge
