Which friggin' transmission is in this thing?

Only car I've ever owned that wikipedia didn't list the damn tranny specs on...

So, I've got my new '09 Yaris. I'm researching engine swaps in this thing. I'm trying to figure out which transmission is in this thing, so I can start looking at my options in terms of adapter plates and bolt ups. I've got the 5MT. Anyone help a brother out?

Thanks in advance.

to be double sure, I doubt they changed anything with the 09 but there should be some sort of specification plate in one of your door jambs, something like this:

Oh, so its the plain old C50? Or maybe that just refers to the class of transmission... I mean, small peanuts, but I'd like to know for sure just to know, you know? (Thats a lot of know)

I went outside too, mine says built in Japan, and doesn't have the engine or tranny specs.

Now I'm back to find a flashlight, perhaps I can see more than with my cell

Okay, it's raining here too, but I found 'em. In the driver's door jam, just above the door pin on the rear was the tag. It's definitely different from the one he posted, as it has all the stuff the U.S. requires it to have, but the bottom left hand corner had a line that reads A/TM C50. And then, of course, the underside of the hood, driver's side, reads 1NZ-FE, but we already knew that. Tomorrow I'll throw it up on the rack if i get a chance, and see if I can just pull some numbers of the tranny itself.

Some poking around on the net shows that the transmission is as such: C-5X is the series, with X marking the generation. The C-50 hasn't been used since early nineties from what I can tell, but the c-52,4,etc are just different generations of the same c-50.

"The C-50 transmission first came out in the early 1980s in some of the FWD Toyotas. It is very similar to the C-40 transaxle (4-speed) and shares some components. The C-50 was shipped with two different final drive ratios (that I know of): 3.722 and 4.311. It was also made in two different shifter configurations: one for the FWD cars (Corollas) and another for the RWD cars (MR2). The RWD units all had the 4.311 final drive. The C-50 has evolved through the years and has had spin-offs like the C-150. The C-52 is a slightly newer C-50, still sharing many components. The C-56 is one of the latest variants, again sharing parts, but having several upgrades and changes along the way. Even the C-60 (6-speed) used in the Celica is of the same family."

From what I've been reading, it seems that pretty much anything that was ever bolted to a c-5x application can be fitted to any of the c-5x stuff, albeit sometimes with slight modification. Don't quote me on that though.

I have your VIN from the label you posted. Assuming the US computer system works for Thailand VINs, I'll have my roomie run your number in the morning, and he can tell me exactly what is in your car, with your permission of course.

And, to get back on topic, I'll get with roomate and determine identifier tag locations for the c-5x series, as well as code breakdowns.
