good way to guestimate your mpg using the digital gas gauge
in the short time i've owned my yaris sedan i have figured that the first bar is good for about 75 miles, then about 50 miles per bar thereafter. going by this rough estimate that's 425 miles/11.1 gallons for 38.3 mpg.
you can use this a a rough gauge to see whether you are above or below 38.3 mpg while you are driving around. for example, when you are at about half a tank if you have over 225 miles when the fifth bar drops, you are above 38.3 mpg approx. |

sorry, i meant to say if you are at 225 miles when the 4th bar drops you are on pace to beat 38.3 mpg.

I have found that the last three bars get less than 50 miles. They usually get around 40 miles.

That goes to show ya, that the Yaris is good on gas mileage. And you save a dollar or two in you pocket.

I just wish Toyota would have spent a few more dollars on:
1. better instrument cluster 2. larger gas tank...at least 15 gallons 3. insulation or sound proof material

well, on my way to work my 4th bar dropped at 224 miles, so i should be just about on pace for a 38 mpg tank. i'll let y'all know how it turns out.

I don't understand how hard is it to simply use a calculator and divide miles by gallons at the pump.

I don't think so. It would cut into Toyota's profits but I don't think it would cost more than a Corolla.
