Engine noise

I am getting this strange noise when starting my car. It mostly happens in the morning or when leaving work in the evening.

Any advice what can be causing this noise? I attached a link with a recording of the noise.

The noise? That like cricket noise? Might be that serpentine belt check if its old. Hows the condition.

When was the last time it was changed.

The belt that goes on all the pulleys.

it sounds like a scraping/squealing noise.
This was changed about 2 months ago. Same noise before and after.

Some new belts make noise too.

And I'm serious.
Give it time to break in.

How tight is it?

I don't think it's loose but new parts do need time to break in. Give it a month or two.

Hey it was that cricket sound right? When the car turns over and starts to run right.

I think the noise might be from friction from a new belt.

Don't tighten anything like the incredible hulk.
I'm not saying to retighten just let it relax on it's own. Some new parts need to be broken in on their own.

Who put it in?.

It's a 2008 yaris sedan. The mileage is about 140000 km.

It's not the cricket sound.

Is it constant?

It's more like a very short whistle screeching noise for a quarter of a second after the car finally turns over?

Does the sound go away after this and during driving?

.

It mostly happens when the car rest for a while, say 5 hrs or more.

Who put in the belt?

How's the tension?

Get it adjusted if needed.

I got it installed by a local service station. This was done about two months ago. It was carried back last week for tensioning. Noise didn't change.

Did you find the cause of this noise? I'm having the very same problem. Belt's tension looks good to me although, I haven't changed it in a while.

Can't believe I didn't find this thread before posting my thread with video here:

Mine has been making the same exact noise for a while now. Others have commented on my YouTube about having the same noise. Neither Toyota nor a highly yelp rated local shop were able to diagnose. Best guess was the starter sticking when cold.

Well, it doesn't happen every time and from the sound of my vid, my mechanic didn't think so.

Sounds like the starter solenoid sticking just a bit too long. Common problem in corollas/matrixes/vibes. Sounds very similar. My wife's 10 vibe has had this intermittently since we bought the car.

One thing that may help- only bump the key forward and let the car start itself. Don't hold the key forward until the car starts.

Thanks; just learned about that recently from the good folks here at YarisWorld. Been starting it that way ever since. Still happens occasionally. If it starts to happen more often, I'm just going to replace the starter.
