Unhappy 2007 Yaris: my mileage sucks

I just bought this car, a 4DR HTBK.
I'm not seeing anywhere close to 48MPG.
I think its about 450KM per tank in town.
The car only has 35,000KM on it.

What could it be, plugs?

thanks

48 mpg is fantasy land. Only hyper miler fanatics can achieve that, rarely.

What you're getting is close to reality.

I have to agree with wolfman. I only get about 450 km as well. Mixed hwy and city with an automatic.

I get about 250km a tank even with new plugs, air filter, cleaned maf, 36/34 Tyre psi and diving like a grandmother. Now I'm envious of you guys getting 400km+

crazy. I guess 450km is good, depending on when you are filling your tank. i guess that is around what I get. I go by mpg, which my average is 30.06 (12.78kml) if you get 450km and you fill up at 2 bars that's great! (35mpg/14.83kml) but if it's at double flashing empty that's not too awesome. (25mpg/10.6kml)
250km is just awful! I think there might be some serious issues with economy here...
(18.2mpg/7.74kml-14.09mpg/5.99kml)

Agree with Exi, 450km per tank in town is expected, especially on winter blend gas.

When improve conservatively and mostly all highway I'd get just over 700km per tank. In winter I get just under 600 all highway but that's also driving faster and harder.

City driving kills economy, and winter blends don't help at all.

carry some fuel in a gas can so can drive to a station when the tank runs out and you log the miles/km per tank?
(Would be great to have a reserve lever for this accounting method...like motorcycles and fifties Beetles.)
