Trouble Code P2121
I had this problem twice today:
when this happens CEL comes on and p ress the throttle 100% and it only opens 15% 1st i reseted the battery, after 20-40km or so light turns on again at traffic light and my car cant move, when i checked the rpm engine is idling even when i pressed the pedal, hold my feet on the pedal and suddenlyu car move and again full pedal = 15% throttle luckily this time i try clearing the trouble code using my Greedy informeter and car is back to normal. When i checkd the trouble code it chouws P2121 which i cant seem to find in the toyota nation website anyone have any idea? |

I had the P2121 a few weeks ago when returning from a long trip and did the last 200kms with the engine light on and the gas pedal feeling strange on acceleration but it would cruise at highway speeds.Next day i openened this post http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15801
To discover it was throttle position sensor related however when next i started the car some 24hrs later the problem has gone away and hasnt been back since. |

I'll take a guess that you sprung a vacuum leak somewhere (intake manifold?)
In any case, take it to the dealer. Might even still be covered under warranty. |

I took off my connections, contact cleaned them (spray) then used silicon dielecrtic paste. these are old messages. Nothing recurring?

just open the pedal accelerator and clean it with contact cleaner and install back. most likely has dust and particles inside which affect the hall effect sensor |

My friend's 2009 Yaris Manual has a persistent trouble code P2121 with a weird gas pedal behavior. He has to step gas pedal 2-3 times before it starts to accelerate which is very unsafe. If he is in uphill condition with cars behind him, he could easily hit them if the gas pedal won't respond quickly.
I took off and dismantle the accelerator pedal assembly with integrated hall effect sensor. the magnet was intact as well as other things. Found a lot of debris and dirt inside. Only (2) 10mm bolts were holding the pedal and 4 torx screws. I just grabbed a contact cleaner and gently sprayed it, removing the dusty particles. The green plastic - shoulder sleeve bushings that act as a bearing are partially worn out. I believe the dust particles inside the pedal assembly were from the bushing material and the plastic pedal mechanism rubbing each other creating menace to the hall effect sensor. I cannot find a replacement online for this bushing/bearing which is probably Teflon-coated (green color) so I just cleaned this part and dub it with silicon oil due to some of its surfaces were scratched and lost its self-lubricating effect. I cleared the persistent P2121 error, and it never comes back after. The gas pedal is also now very responsive. Will post pictures later. |
