That would be the syncro. Usually made of brass they can be wrecked easily by poor drivers, which makes it all the more interesting that they replaced it no questions asked. I am a recovering Dodge fan boy and I know damn well if I showed up to a dealer with a worn syncro they would have denied warranty because of "abuse".
I am not trying to imply that you are a bad driver. It could easily be a faulty part.

Yes, newbie manual drivers, that CRRRRRRRR sound when you change gears is not normal! You must use your clutch! You know, that pedal near your left foot?

I don't seem to have this problem.(Auto. tranny)
Just a fluke I'm sure; My wife had an auto tranny go out on an 03' Civic with 15,000 miles. Somtimes these things just happen, that's what the warranty is for. Just be glad it didn't happen at 60,001 miles. That would still be a fluke but no warranty. |

They were talking about "double clutching" in driving school yesterday... that is supposed to greatly extend the life of the syncros because it allows the shaft speeds to equalize. I don't really know what that means (well, I sort of do), but the instructor I went out with showed me. Slower shifts= happier car.

Don't care if you're noobe or a grampa.....unless they prove you were on a race track, warranty from any manufacturer should replace with no arguments! Parts can fail....period. Good luck with the new tranny.

Somewhat of a bewbie at manual still, but I've gotten it down, otherwise I wouldnt be able to drive 55 miles everyday to college and back home.
Going slow you get honked at here in California, lol. So many honks I had to suffer when stalling or going slow when on an incline..... |
