Depends on when you want it to come on,
most people wire it into the courtesy light above your head . So when you unlock your car it turns on . |

Whenever I do mine I am tapping into the parking light relay. I figure the most useful time to have it on is when its dark out.

Hey everyone.... I'll take a couple of pics on the wiring of the ignition light and post it for ya'll. I won't have pics of the physical install of the light around the ignition switch with the steering column cracked open but I'll give you some notes about it.
As for the wiring, I'll show pics of how mine is wired. It comes on when the doors are opened along with the dome light. Mine also "times out" with the dome light after the door is shut. I'll take these pics sometime today or tomorrow. I hope it will help. Later... Bikegerm ... yet to be re-established.. |

From the picture above I can tell you how to wire your ignition light. Pull the dome light connector Donnie has pointed to. It's a 6 pin connector. You need to splice your black ground wire to the pink wire which is off of pin 2, and splice your red power cable to the blue wire which is off of pin 5.
When it is wired here, your ignition light will come on when you open your car door. It will then shut off with the dome light when it times out or when you start your car. When you shut your car off, the ignition light comes on, then times off with the dome light. This is where I wired mine. As for the physical installation of the light. It's preety easy. Just remove the two phillips head screws behind the steering wheel. There's one on the left and one on the right. You'll need to spin the steering wheel to get to each screw. Pop the plastic covers loose. I dremmeled the opening around the ignition switch slightly on both the bottom and top covers. This helped the fit once the plastic light is placed around the ignition switch. I also put a small black shroud around my light so it would reduce the bleed of the light inside the column, through the side column seams. I hope this helped. Sorry I don't have any pictures. I installed mine two weeks ago based on a previous DIY. |

Hey Tiny. Do you mean in volts? When I opened the door I think it was around 12 volts. I guess I could measure it again. My memory sucks !! This install was 2 weeks ago. Here's a couple of pics. You'll see by the close up, I still need to "trim" my light leakage.

And I remember it being a little under 12 volts. Here's a pin out of the connector.
