Chevy AVeo gas mileage

Question:

Why is the Aveo fuel economomy only 27/35? Is it the engine?
Whats wrong with the US auto industry.
Thats why i didn't buy it.

I personally think that Detroit auto industry is completely off base.
Small startups will get the job done better and more efficiently.
The UAW makes any progress painstakingly slow, thats why the Japanese keep all their RD in Japan.

Don't get me wrong theUS has real bright people, but somehow they get roadblocked by management/other idiots. Like a cement truck hired by the Detroit Big 3 will run u off the road if you get in their gas guzzling/stupid way.

thats my abreviated opinion.

I think the Aveo is made in Korea. And, Korean cars haven't been getting as good gas mileage compared to the Japanese ones.

Yes it's the engine and probably the transmission, and ECU, and probably a lot of other things. Just because an engine has the same size doesn't mean it's going to get the same milage.

I had a rental for 3 months while my car was in the shop and indeed I noticed worse mileage than my yaris. The aveo is just a rebadged Korean Daewoo. And the engine is a 1.6L, a little bigger than a yaris.

A friend of mine bought 2 Aveos. They both have a backfire problem that the dealer is giving them the run-a-round on. Its all over the web, about the exhaust valves not seating correctly. They won't own up to it. They probably were a good car until Generic Motors (GM) got a hold of it-lol. No doubt avoiding a recall. I told him should of bought a Honda or Toyota!! But some people are just hard headed! Chris

I had a 2004 Aveo for about 26000 miles until it was wrecked, but it was flawless during that time. Is it the best small car, no, but it was reliable, got 30+mpg, and I bought it new for $8500.

I had a 2007 Aveo as my rental car and I can't believe that any auto company would stick their name on it.

Here's why its fuel efficiency sucks so badly:

1) No DFCO
2) No VVTi, VTEC or the like
3) Cheap-ass, high-resistance tires with a max sidewall of just 35 PSI
4) A very loose engine that burned through 1/4 quart of oil each week
5) Totally screwed up and high-resistance transmission gearing (very long low gears and very short top gears makes for some freaky mountain driving)
6) The steering feedback, or lack thereof, easily leads to oversteering

In other words: shitty design, cheap workmanship, and no use of modern drive train technologies whatsoever.

On a side note, it would throw a CEL for 100 miles or so each time I fueled it up. I never did figure out if I found that funny or just annoying.

I think most car companies don't spend money on small cars with low profit. Toyota and Honda do. Thats why they both make great small cars and actually get good designers and engineers on all of their projects. GM, Ford, etc. will only use the bare minumum of funds to get a small car into production, thus they all suck bigtime. They may "look" OK but under the hood it's a world of difference between a "Big 3" car and a Toyota or Honda. Our Yaris has so many innovations it's hard to list them all. How many innovations went into an Aveo? None!

Viva Toyota and Honda!

When I was shopping around for car loans several companies and a handful of cars that they would not finance. Cars that will be used as company vehicles, box trucks, transport vans and any Daewoo.

If that doesn't tell you something.....
