exhaust system

ok so its obvious i can gain a lil hp and some mpg out of a free-er flowing exhaust..thats just the nature of an engine period

but theres dozens of headers out there...so many that i question if theres any reason to bay extra for X name brand

the big kicker i noticed was the restriction tward the back when the pipe sizes down before the can....

i own a bender so ill make my own pipes under the car..ive got some milspec cats from another project so thats handled too...the real kicker is going to be finding a can i like that doesnt sound like rice.......to be honest im considering running the stocker with a bypass valve connected to the throttle ie more throttle more bypass

with all that said..what do i need to look out for or watch for when it comes to headers.....im not sold on paying extra for a name if something else is just as good...im not looking for "top end" idealy id like to see more bottom end ...ie loads and hill power

and what size pipe...as i know too big can hurt

The stock exhaust is 2" until after the resonator, then it drops to 1.75 to go over the axle and to the muffler. Honestly on a mostly stock 1NZ, a full 2" exhaust is enough.

dc sport header is my favorite since it has the longest length runners out of all the headers, it feels to be the best in power gain too

thats what i figured open up the remaineder of the exhaust to 2 inch would likely be a nice gain in itself..just wasnt sure if the rest of it could be "improved" or not..i ssume swapping the cat to a milspec high flow should see some kind of gain

the header tho is where i wondered if there is any gain to be had on a stock engine...and of course runner length try y collectors single etc..lots of designs tons of companys making em

yes thats the one, its definitely worth it if you can find one, youll get the most power out of the those beautiful long runners, not like the short garbage you find everywhere else
