New aFe CAI = CEL with P0101 Error

Hello,

Maybe someone has been through this with a 2nd gen Yaris or luckily a 3rd like my SE.

I just put an AFE CAI on my SE. Went several days without issue. I hit the 1K mile mark and decided to get on it a bit for the first time and almost instantly I got a CEL with code P0101 which is pretty generic. It looks like the MAF is angry with all that air coming at it. I will answer some questions that anyone with experience might have: This was the first time since the car was purchased that I took the engine over 4,500 RPM. Yes, I was EXTREMELY careful with I pulled the MAF. No there is no oil on it from the filter. I am about 5,200 feet ASL. I did have a similar problem with my 2007 Matrix-it would throw a code (can't remember the number) for running lean. That seems to not be the case here. Yes, the MAF is facing the right direction.

Things were fine until I revved it about 4,500. In my Matrix, I had to solve the problem with a Greddy eManage Blue and countless hours of tuning. I am not looking to have to repeat that with my new Yaris-once is enough...

With that...anyone out there with a CAI had their Yaris throw CEL's with similar codes?

I really was hoping that it would be an easy mod. I have a OBDII reader and I have reset the code. I will keep it below 4,000 RPM for the next few days and see if it comes back. I have put about 100 miles on the car since the installation.

Thanks!

/randy

The thread listed above and the 'fix' seems to have worked so far-I have not gone another 100 miles since the install. Did you use the spacers?

I used everything in the kit. Foam gasket, spacers. It was the 2006-7 kit I believe. But like I say I don't rev over 3-3500rpm. But I've had it on for 100km of my 130km on the car.

Every time I see this I have to chuckle...not at the folks being cautious, but at myself. I bought my 07 in Mankato, MN and then my break in was driving it back the 2000 miles to Maine and the bulk of the driving was at 80-85mph many times taking the revs up to mid 5s. I guess I kind of threw caution to the wind.

As for the spacers they are critical otherwise the MAF sits too low in the pipe causing issues when you really get on it. I never threw a CEL until I went boosted.

The spacers are what caused a CEL for me, I took them out and never had a CEL after that.

Taking the spacers out seems to have fixed it for me too. 200+ miles and driving it like it was stolen for about the 50 to see if I could pop a CEL. No issues yet....
