My Tein Coilovers go "Bang!"

I could you some help from you guys....Just got some Tein coilovers installed and the handling is fantastic! The only problem so far is every time I go over some rough road, I hear a very loud "bang"! It is coming from both left rear and right rear. There is no tire rubbing. Everything looks like it is installed properly. Any thoughts on what may be causing this????

Thanks in advance

Sounds like your struts are bottoming out. Dampening isn't set right?

How low do you have the coilovers set for height wise, sounds like your not giving them enough room to move with the motion of the car, you might have them too low, thus they just give a bit and hit bottom. If you have them lowered heavily, I would suggest trying to raise them, I have had mine for almost 6 months now, with no issues with bottoming out, but I also have mine setup or a moderate drop, I could dump them if I wanted to. Risking the same effect as you are describing.

When I got them installed, the install shop set them at almost max lowering. It looks like about 2 inches. Let's just say he fenders are covering the tops of my 195/55/15s.

I definately need to raise the rear end. I may also consider cutting an inch off the bump stops in the rear given the loud "whack" occurs with not too mcuh force.

bumpstops shouldnt be oem, tein will have their own in the coilover kit...

it sounds to me you have to raise the rear end a bit....especially if youre tucked....have a pic?

Adjust the Teins until you have about 1 1/2-2 inches between the tire and fender ( all 4 wheels ) or, you can use the measurements provided by Tein in the instructions .

Magazine car ride height (fantasy) vs. streetable ride height (reality).
Two very different specifications (unfortunitely).

first check to make sure the bolts are tight up top and that the lower bolts are tight as well.

the bump stop is in or on the strut so you'll need to uninstall them, and you shouldn't need to modify them from Tein, you just need to raise the car.

Well I checked the bump stops and the overall install. Everything appears to be correct. I even adjusted the rear coilovers higher. Still have the "whack" sound alternating from both sides. It sounds like someone is hitting the plastic panels with an antenna or something. Any other thoughts? This has had to have happened to someone else!

Long-shot but coil bind perhaps???

The bump stops are just fine. It looks like the install was properly done. The more I hear the sounds the more convinced I am the sound is coming from inside. It is coming from both right rear and left rear. I strongly suspect the sound is coming from a inside body panel whacking against the sheet metal due to the way stiffer rear suspension. I am still trying to figure this out. This has had to have happened to someone else!
